    I had to lengthen the charge lead on 1 bank as my cranking battery is aft and TM batteries are under the bow. NOCO states you must cut and splice after the in line fuse and use the original terminals to the battery.I also used 8 Gauge wire and heat shrink butt connectors for the extension.It is working well and no issues. Liked your layout and install...

    Can you have a solar controller on the batteries simultaneously? Getting charge from your solar panels? Or is it one or the other?

  • @InfiniteBassin

    @InfiniteBassin

    2 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't know the answer to that question. I've never messed with solar panels before. I'd imagine from what I know of them you'd need a ton of large panels to supply enough power to the battery to actually be beneficial.

    If I’ve got two batteries connected together do I still use a novo dual battery charger or will a single unit charge both batteries?

  • @InfiniteBassin

    If they are run in series you would need a 24v charger to charger them with one charger. The charger would connect at opposite ends of the series. If ran in parallel you can use a 12v charger but may take additional time to charge based on the chargers capacity. I would recommend just getting the dual charger. So you know the condition and charger status of each battery.

  • @InfiniteBassin

    2 жыл бұрын

    The simple answer is yes you can, it will charge your battery almost twice as fast. On the other hand you need to know your batteries charge current rating to make sure you aren't exceeding that. If using it on a lead acid battery check the fluid level frequently because higher charging currents can evaporate fluids faster than lower currents. Also check the battery temp while charging to make sure the battery isn't over heating.

    I Have the Gen 5X2 with 2 AGM batteries. Can I connect the negs of each battery together? The charger doesnt seem to connect the negs internally thru the charger is why I am asking. I am using battery isolator where the grounds would be connected together.

    My genius gen 2 went out and doesn’t charge two of the the four banks. Only had it a little over a year. I saw reviews and they said that it’s a common problem with that model. Like you said in your video it’s plug and play with no buttons or options. So after watching your video I’m gonna get the GenPro as well to replace that one. How do you like it so far that new charger.

    These chargers aren't battery packs you charge before use. These are the chargers. All you do is install in boat and connect to batteries. When done connect to an external plug in. The onboard charger will charge your batteries to full, then trickle charge them off and on to maintain a full charge.

  • @larrycelzo2028

    @@larrycelzo2028 yes it needs to be plugged in. If you don't plug it in to an external plug the charger won't work and the battery will drain and die over time. Those on-board chargers only work when plugged into an external plug.

    Nice Video. The question, Got the 5x3 on mine. 2 Deep cycles 29's and a 27 crank. When it's plugged at the marina the unit works, then when unplugged from the AC it's off while the boat is out. It works without being on (no lights)? I've noticed one of my batteries isn't holding a charge, while the other ones seem fine. Bought a new one today to replace the one, hopefully, it works. Thanks in advance!

  • @InfiniteBassin

    @InfiniteBassin

    No. They only work when plugged into AC wall power. So when out on the water it's not charging your batteries at all. The only thing that gets charged is the starter battery and thats from the alternator on the engine. The trolling motor batteries only charge when the onboard charger is plugged into an external AC source. The name onboard charger simple mean its a charger thats in your boat.

    @@InfiniteBassin Thanks for the quick reply. Isn't it supposed to trickle charge to keep the power circulating to all batteries? I feel like I'm missing the point of this thing. I have 3 in total. one 27 for the crank, 29 for the internals (navs/Bildge, etc) and a 29 for the fun stuff (Leds, water pump, Air Horn, etc).

  • @InfiniteBassin

    @@bnyc5985 you're welcome and nope it doesn't. When plugged into an external power source they become fully charged the charger will go into a trickle mode. That prevents then from being over charged when the boat is not in use. It's a convenient way to charge 3 batteries at the same time and have them charged properly with 1 power cord. These charged don't do anything while not plugged in. The powerpole charger is one that is customizable for on the water options but not these.
