Nicely done! Showed all important details, unlike most videos. I'll keep my screwdriver handy from here on... 😂 Never a mad idea! Appreciate it.
3:48 was pure gold. I couldnt for the life of me figure out that damn plug. Thanks a million guys!
Feeling like I need to replace my distributor soon and this makes it look like I can do it. Glad I found this vid.
As noted below, and as both our instructor and I discovered, the lugs at the end of the distributor shaft (the two tabs that fit into the cam shaft) are not identical, as they appear to be. If they are off by 180 degrees, you will not be able to install it. I think this is what was going on in the video when he could not quite get it to settle in. During the break in the vid, I believe he inadvertently rotated the shaft 180 degrees. We discovered this in a funny way when we accidentally slid the distributor in upside down, it fit fine, we pulled it off and tried to put it in right-side-up and it would not fit...until we rotated the distributor shaft 180 degrees.
IMPORTANT: This video does not explain the timing aspect of installing a new distributor. Do further research on timing and installing distributors before starting this project.
Thank you. I got mine replaced today. Works perfectly.

Did you ever adjust the timing?
Which directions to rotate the distributor assy (three 12mm bolts) if at idle is low (low rev on tac scale) when viewing from the passenger side (looking straight the distributor)? You forgot to tell or show us how to make the adjustment. I do not have a timing light. Do I rotate clockwise or counter clockwise? Very nice video.
would have love to see if it starts
if you take off the distributor cap you can turn the rotor and it won't be a struggle to get it in
I just picked up a 2000 crv. It had a cylinder 1 misfire. The distributor aluminum housing was missing the lower cap hold down screw allowing moisture and condensation in cap and rotor was trash signs of fouling corroded terminals and a tiny crack. It's time to remove the distributor and rebuild it. The two keyways on the rear of the distributor that meet the cam do the keyways only go in one way or can it turn 180 out and go in incorrect. Thank you
How do I rebuild the distributor - like change the coil module inside?
When you line up the lugs on the distributor with the notches in the shaft, do you need to make sure that the rotor on the new unit is pointing in the same direction as on the old unit so you're not 180 degrees different?

The Honda Repair manual states: "Note: The lug on the end of the distributor and its mating grooves in the camshaft end are both offset to eliminate the possibility of installing the distributor 180° out of time." You can't install it backwards!

This video was great, successfully did it after hours of trying to get the old broken distributor cap off lol
I have a CRV 97 with the code P1362 - Camshaft Position Sensor A no signal or Top Dead Center Sensor no signal. I did a bunch of research and it was impossible to find the camshaft/TDC sensor locally. I was told by a mechanic that the distributor needed to be replace because those sensors are in there (?!?). The local price is $450 plus labour. I'm planning to go to the car junkyard and see if i can grab one and do the work myself. I am no handyman, but this video really made it so easy to do! Thanks for doing this video! In your experiences, this code.....am I doing the right thing by changing the distributor?

Haha my local tried to charge me 750!
This sure beats taking the entire distributor apart and replacing the coil, rotor, and cap individually. You can get the entire distributor which also includes the top dead center sensor too for less money than having to rebuild it. Plus it’s 1/5 the time to do the job.
The distributor can shift so its not really bolt in as you can slide it left and right on the bolts fpr tomming purposes.
Is there a torque for the bolts? Every time I don't take note of torque I end up stripping them!
Nice video but no mention of setting the timing!

if you mark it, before you take it off.You usually don't have too, i know six years later lol!
Then you gotta adjust the timming
How do you know if you have a VTEC or non VTEC engine on a 1998 Honda CRV? Some distributors say for non VTEC. I just installed one that was for non VTEC and the engine would crank but not start. I don’t know if it’s because I have a VTEC or just got a bad distributor.

All of the Generation 1 CR-V engines were non V-Tec.
Can you show how your wiring diagram to that from the spark plugs.
Just had this problem diagnosed and changed at a local shop. $800!!!

you got scammed so hard lmao the part is only like 100 max
If the distributor does not go in very easy you might have to turn that thing that mates with no the camshaft end 180 degrees
1-3-4-2, counting from the left side of the vehicle (left as seen from the driver's seat); i.e., cylinder number one is on the end of the engine where the drive belts are.
Thanks for this video, it was helpful. However, like another poster said, there was no mention of setting the timing. No matter how carefully one marks, removes, and replaces the distributor, the timing will wind up off and you'll need to reset it. Easy enough to do with at cheap timing light.
3:48 distributor clip tab PULL TOWARDS YOU, it was NOT PUSH IN...? Didn’t feel intuitive to consider that. WTF. Thanks
he didn't say that u may need to reset the timing as well

Sajid - I realise this is a 2 year old post, but it could be the contacts on the ignition switch, where you turn the key. The contacts in the wire harness get gunked up cause the vehicle to randomly shut off while driving. It's easy to fix yourself.

Does it have to be timed
Fabulous - many thanks!
Can you tell me how the lock on the cable to the ECT sensor works, how the hell do i disconnect? Im watching this because I realised i have to remove the distributor to get to it
Should recheck and adjust timing with a timing light . Let's see a video for that too ( specific to these vehicle models ). EDIT - This Intrega timing video is pretty close - kzread.info/dash/bejne/pXuu2qV8kduqmqw.html
How in the hell did you get the plug loose that easy?!
It doesn't look too hard....maybe I can do it myself
Accidentally broke the tab! Help!
Well I didn't see him adjusting the distributor timing with the timing gun or light this is useless to me 😔😔😔

I don’t think it matters just mark it with a sharpie or just get it as close as possible, i recently took off my distributor to change some oil seals, put it back on and it runs fine.
@mattmaffett5879

@@justvibing7912 you may not be able to tell a difference, but it does indeed matter. Even very slight adjustments can set the timing WAY off. If you ever get yourself a timing light, you will discover this as well.

@@IsaiahBlunkall if you're facing the distributor, is 1 the bottom left; 3 bottom right / 4 top left; 2 top right? Or are you starting @ 1 (bottom left) and going clockwise around the distributor?
