    Great tips. I think the quick grip clamps would be really helpful holding the cabinets together. I bought a Bosch laser very similar to this one in the video (2 lines). If I had to do it over again I'd spend the extra money on the one that throws the vertical laser (3 lines) up to the ceiling as well which can replace the use of a plumb bob for doing steel stud tracks and stuff like that.

    A laser level is so useful!! When I first got my house, after gutting it, the kitchen was my first big project. I figured I would invest in a laser level to help with installing the cabinets, but I didn't figure I would ever use it much again. Boy was I wrong... I bring it out all the time.

    Hello Jeff, we are moving forward to cabinets installation for our kitchen reno. The wife preferred Ikea cabinetry. :( Would you recommend custom build base or stick with IKEA feet? I’m more concern with it’s not being level for final countertop install. I’ve seen KZread demonstrates building base with plywoods and seems sturdy. Thanks.

    Great video! I am going to install ikea cabinets soon. To save an extra cm at the countertop, im not going to use the metal rail. (Cause i only have 62cm depth) So I assume I have to mount them to the back wall as you did? But I will have to use the square metal parts in the ikea cabinet right,to mount it to the wall.

    Thanks for posting all of this Jeff, it's amazing! My wife and I just bought a 115 year old house in Massachusetts and are planning to fully gut the kitchen, pantry, and mudroom in order to install a new kitchen (I'll be making custom cabinets and an island) and a half bath. The house has mostly original pine floors, but newer red oak strip flooring in the current kitchen (estimated around 15 years old). At some point in the future, we would like to unify the flooring - either restore the original look of the kitchen floors or put new flooring over everything since old pine isn't really our style. Do we have to remove the red oak under our new cabinets before we install them, or would you leave it in place and cut around the cabinets in the event of a floor replacement in the future? One thing to note is the floors aren't level in this house, so we've already got some leveling work to do - I was planning to use the EZ Level system or something similar for the cabinets.

  • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

    @HomeRenoVisionDIY

    that is a tough call. personally i would remove any flooring that is not destined to be there long term. it is really hard to cut out hardwood flush to cabinets. I would even drop in a vinyl sheet flooring in the mean time. that can be cut with a knife later and will be easy to clean in the mean time for a pretty low cost. Cheers!

    Want to know a major bugbear of mine? Im a tiler and something that really gets my goat with some kitchen fitters is when they dont level the base cabinets properly when the kitchen has a free standing cooker. Was booked in to tile a kitchen only recently and the client chose bevelled metro tiles. When i put a level across the gap where the freee standing cooker will go, the base cabinets were out by 10mm. Dont sound much but if i had to tile that kitchen i would have had to start tiling at the 'low' end and when i tile across the gap, and in order to keep the tiling level, i would have had to cut the bevel off the metro tile! She would have sued me i think! Kitchen fitter has to come back and remove worktops, sink, plumbing, etc and lower the cabinets on one half of the kitchen and then refit. Ouch. Another fantastic tutorial. Cheers mate from London

    hey buddy, quick question, Im having my small kitchen renovated and all the guys who came over to measure and sell cabinets they keep telling me to install cabinets above the stove to use the empty space wall. Since there are no windows in my kitchen I was told that no need to install a hood fan. There is a small 12 x12 vent on top of the wall at the corner of the kitchen closed to the ceiling. My apartment building was built in 1969. Please I would love to hear your advise, do u think it would be safer not to install wall cabinet at all above the stove? very much appreciated your reply. What's the process for doing the kick plate with those clips? Do you just measure out to the center of each leg and transfer onto the back of the kick to attach the clips? Seems like the only way to do it, but also seemed to leave for a bit of a chance for error.

    Hi Jeff, how do you know your laser is level when you attach it to the wall? Do you first have to make sure the wall is completely level? Not sure how that works.

    Is there ever a time that you would want to tile first and then put in the floor cabinets? How about under the dishwasher and oven?

    Jefffffffff I have a question How do you know where the stud is if you have a wall/dywall.

    Look for an electrical outlet, it will be mounted on one side to a stud. From there studs are typically laid 16" apart.

    Do you have any videos on how to install base cabinets that are to be placed in front of a window that is lower than the top of the cabinets / worktop level? Do you have any tips on how to install them? I need to totally rearrange a kitchen and I need to put the sink in front of a low window.

    box in the window to create a higher closed jamb. Then install your cabinets.

    Could you place IKEA cabinet doors on these Nimble cabinets? That way you can have the higher range on the overall design.

    Are you in Canada? I’m in Washington State and cannot find the Nimble line. If I search Canadian Lowe’s I find it no problem. Is this line not available in the U.S?
