    I've been dreading the 4 corner beads on two walls that frame a washer and dryer. And then this video came to the rescue. The spray adhesive and staples worked perfectly. In the past, following magazine articles, I used drywall screws or nails and fought with the resultant bulges in the bead and trying to cover the nail heads. The beads are laying flat, the mud is so much easier to apply and the results are looking quite good. As with the inside corner video, thanks so much for the pro tips on tackling what was once a difficult job. A sincere thanks!!

    Such great news Dominic! That’s the good thing about video, you can see exactly how it’s done. I have got so many questions on my drywall videos on how to finish inside and outside corners. For these outside corners the spray adhesive and staples on vinyl corner bead is so much easier than trying to screw or nail like you said. The vinyl corner bead always seems to bubble up right next to where you put a screw or nail. I’m glad my videos are coming in handy for you! Thanks so much for watching and the great feedback! Take care, -Paul

    Hey Paul, looks good. I don’t know if this will help, what I started doing was using the 90 min powder mud on my second coat and a mason trowel. I was tired of that gully you were referring to on you final skim coat. All my wife knives seem to flex too much and never got the corner dead flat. I like the 90 powder because it allows me to get second and final coats in one day if I desire. An added bonus is that mud dries harder and if someone bumps into it as they always do it is a little more forgiving and doesn’t gouge all the mud out before it’s painted. Keep up the good work.

    I landed in Orlando in 2016 as I was looking out the plane I could tell the land was sinking. I thought about the gators and how dangerous they are in such an urban area. I wondered how that was dealt with by people in the area and what kind of a problem it was or may be. When I got back home the news the very same day told about a child eaten by a gator. I think it may have been in Orlando where I was at Disney. His dad was there and tried to save him but no luck. I still cannot get over it. By the way I think Florida is too damn hot I had to take refuge from that heat or it would have killed me. Dead.

    Hi Paul. Have you ever heard of cutting vinyl corner bead down the middle in a case where you needed flat bead? I have an incorrectly installed shower stall where the typical shower bead won't work. I need a flat bead, which would work better than mesh tape. I thought cutting corner bead would be easier than trying to find the tear-away type of bead, which isn't in my local store. Thanks for any thoughts, and all your great videos.

I'm doing a small bathroom..the previous owners put paneling over the original plaster. I've pulled the old paneling off and replaced it with a thin underlayment. I plan to mud the joints and basically treat it like it's drywall. I will put a skim coat on it first. Should I skim it before or after I tape and mud the corners? Thanks

    I use metal bead with mud behind it, squeeze it into the corner, then I tape it with fibafuse. I only staple it in places I need to if it doesn't sit how I want it to. I imagine the vinyl bead is so it doesn't want to rust in the bathroom.

    I got the idea from the paper faced metal mud on bead. The mud seeps thru all the holes in the regular metal bead which helps it hold, and I tape and mud over it in the same setting but don’t fill and float the bead until that dries. I have had a crack line on the edge of the fibafuse on a couple, but no beads have popped off after an impact. I’m an electrician now, but I did general commercial construction for 15 years. I was always doing some amount of miscellaneous drywall and I always like talking to finishers. I’ll soon be trying out that skip trowel texture of yours. Never heard of it until your channel, but I like that idea.

    Hi Paul, after watching your video, I did this exact process with the adhesive, corner bead, and even got the same stapler; however, the adhesive got into the tip of the stapler that cycles and fires the staples and the powershot won't fire anymore unless I manually push that tip in. Have you had this problem with your stapler?

  • @PaulPeck

    @PaulPeck

    Hey Mark, I haven’t had that happen to where it wouldn’t shoot. Just stick. Usually when the stapler won’t fire it’s due to a staple jam. Have you checked for a staple or something else jammed in it?

  • @sparksmach1

    @sparksmach1

    Thanks for the quick reply Paul! Yes I checked for a staple jam and I am able to manually tap the firing tab back inwards, but it's quite slow to have to manually re-set it every time I want to shoot a staple in there. I hit the tap with some penetrating oil and worked it in and it didn't correct the problem. I'll swap it out at the store with a new one, I'm guessing there is some kind of factory defect with it. Also, thanks so much for the video, the process was really quick and finished really nicely in my renovation!!

    @@sparksmach1 You said you accidentally spray the adhesive into the end of the stapler? If thats so, and is the reason the stapler is malfunctioning, take some Acetone or Laquer Thinner and clean the end of your stapler. Let it soke into the tip area really well. It will break down the adhesive, and should allowthe stapler to function as it did when new.

  • @momagic72
    @momagic725 жыл бұрын

    The adhesive certainly helps with installation, however most adhesives over time break down or loses their bonding strength. In this case it may not be an issue or it may take 15 to 20 years for the bond to become brittle, but one should be aware of this situation when considering long term durability. Nice work.

I can’t tell you how many calls I received over the years where this method failed from other installers and we had to repair the correct (for longevity) way...

    Ha. You don’t know how many times I’ve had to go back and repair metal corner bead from oxidation or rust... Overtime the metal corner bead oxidizes and the joint compound loses its adhesion to the shiny metal corner bead. I also see a lot of metal corner bead rusting at windows and in bathrooms that have a shower or tub in them. That’s why I’m going more towards the vinyl bead. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!👍🏻 Take care, -Paul

    Putting mud over Aqua Defense is not an approved technique according to Mapei. You should have left that side of the bead alone and covered it with thinset then tiled over it. This is just asking for trouble in the humidity of the shower. Any moisture that gets into the mud will be trapped between the Aqua Defense and the wall covering. Thinset won't degrade but sheetrock mud will. You are almost guaranteed to have failure of adhesion of the mud to the Aqua Defense over time.
