How to Install a WARN ZEON 10S Winch on a 2018 Jeep JLU Rubicon with the WARN JL Winch Plate
Damon Bungard walks through the process of installing a new WARN Zeon 10S winch on the factory steel bumper of a new 2018 Jeep JLU Rubicon using the new WARN JL Winch Plate. The WARN Winch plate Part Number is 101255. The winch is the Zeon 10S, PN 89611. Installation is fairly straight forward, but a few key tools will help speed the process.

Super helpful video. Installed mine today with the help from a friend and by watching your video. I was able to use the original nuts with the flange. I also had to widen the holes on the skid plate to get the screws to line up. Thank you
Great video! Keep them coming my brother!
New JL Rubicon here in Saudi too, and sure it is a legendary Car! After your nice video, I am gonna get my winch installed too. Thanks for the great video.
Very nice video! That inside top bumper bolt is a bugger. Off to the hardware store I go! The two farthest-in skid plate bolts can line up without drilling by inserting a large screw driver in the adjacent holes and prying until the bolt hole lines up with the welded nut. Surprisingly that plate has a bit of spring flex to it where it curves! Of course all other skid plate bolts must not be tight. Thanks for the video.
Very helpful video with a lot of 'heads up' for the pitfalls you ran into - I too had trouble with the inside upper drivers side nut. I took the nut to a grinder and removed the flange from the backside of the nut to get it to fit around the winch.
I installed a 12000 S winch on my gladiator. On the square nuts that are in the winch, i used duck tape to hold the nuts in.
Excellent instructions! Easy to follow! Will be helpful when I get my 2019 Wrangler Rubicon in 6 weeks! Thank you!

Hi Claude, did you end up mounting this winch on your 2019 Rubicon? Any issues?
This is the winch model that I need for my JL and I got the same front bumper as yours. My next project will be electric stealth step bars and a roof rack. Thanks for this video!
New JL! Jeep it's legendary vehicle! I'm from Russia.
Great video - awesome detail. Thank you!
Well, after seeing your videos I bought the same color rubicon you did. Now, here I was looking for a winch and bingo - here’s your winch video!

awesome!
Hi Damon, thanks a bunch. Your video and tips helped, especially to beware of the unexpected challenges. A few notes. I found that keeping all the bumper bolts loose, pulling the bumper out a bit, and threading the inner ones on worked-there was enough room that way to get them by the winch. It is still a SUPER tight fit. I bought a battery power ratchet in anticipation after you mentioned how much of a PITA it was. That made it go a lot faster, though it was tough squeezing in there. Used extensions of different sizes. Also ended with torque wrench so would be spec (66 ft lb). The skid plate was as you mentioned a challenge. I left the brackets loose and banged on them down/toward the front, then tightened. That seemed to get ‘em close enough so I didn’t have to drill. I spooled the winch after putting it in the plate; gave me something to provide a little tension with. I also managed to get the winch nuts in after placing it, so I didn’t have troubles losing them. Anyhow, still a longish project for me, but your vid helped prepare me, so thanks again!

Oh yeah, Warn failed to include the winch nuts in my box, so I had to have them overnight them. Be sure to check everything is there before starting, folks! :)

Great step by step, have the same jeep. Going give it a try this week, same winch thanks
Thanks for making this video. It was very helpful!
Thanks for the great tips. I put mine on in next couple of days.

The key for getting that tough interior nut back on is to start it before the bumper is fully re-inserted back onto the frame. Just barely get the bumper re-mounted so the threaded studs are just able to be engaged by the nut, and tighten it while basically pulling the bumper back into place.
Thanks for the HOWTO. Was looking for this exact same setup here.
Love your Jeep. Great Vid.
Very well put together install vid. I’m helping a friend run this exact same setup soon (Warn plate and Zeon 10-S). Just ordered the other day. Hopefully all runs smooth. Gonna go ahead and pick up a swivel adapter for those tricky bolts. Other than that seems pretty straight forward. I’m gonna try to attempt this without widening out the two rear winch plate holes. We’ll see.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing, I was just looking for a video on this. I can’t wait to do this myself. I like the fact there’s no drilling the bumper at all. I have the same steel bumper and I was wondering if I would have to do any drilling. I’m also glad there’s a license plate adapter/holder as well.
Tip: take off the grill. this made reinstalling the 8 bumper frame nuts easy. it's tight getting the grill back on behind the winch afterwards, but if you start with the bottom clips into the metal frame and go slowly..........it works.
Success and it wouldn’t have been so without your vid and other tips you typed below. Your points of NOT tightening the 8 bumper bolts until you have threaded the 4 inside bumper bolts first and also re-attaching the 2 screw/bolts at the end of the skid plate before all 8 bumper bolts are torqued down . Without those tips things will not go together as the instructions say. They need to add those two critical points. Thank you for these critical points!!!! And once installed, wow, what a great fit and look. And for anyone else reading these comments 5/6/18, as far as I can tell as of this date only WARN is making a bracket to fit the Zeon to the factory JL steel bumper. Last week I could not find any WARN brackets, everyone was sold out. Quadratec swore they had a Rusty’s bracket that would work. Well it does NOT. Yes it fits the new JL steel bumper but not for the Zeon winch. I called Rusty’s and they confirmed to me it would not work. Great, got experience taking the bumper off and back on:-) I finally found a WARN bracket for the Zeon to fit the JL from NorthRidge4x4 and they sent additional online installation instructions with great picts. Also, they mention not putting on the fair lead till last. Hmm, I found that not to be a good idea. Putting on before installing the bumper a much better deal. Don’t understand why they recommended that. Besides an amazing fit and look it is going to be one extremely difficult winch to steal..the thieves better be well prepared and tooled, and lots of time trying to figure how to take it all apart. You can’t lift it straight out of the bumper.

Thanks for the great tips.
Great informative video.... Thank You....
Great instructions, thx.
Those inner bumper holes were a bear. I put a jack under the winch plate and shifted the winch over, centering it. This gave me enough room for access to get the nuts started.
Very nice vid. Thanks!
Great video. Any idea if that set up would work without those spacers installed? Thanks.
Looks good 😘
nice job
Great video. Just got a 2018 Rubicon and some guy locally has a Zeon 10S for sale used and the plate for his 2018 Rubicon. But I have a plastic bumper, so I assume I’ll have to buy a bumper too? Or will it work (with cutting) on the plastic bumper? I literally got this Jeep a week ago so I have not had time to research winch/bumper combos, but this seems like a good deal on the S10 so even if I need additional stuff, I may pick it up and install later.
Solid install job instruction, thank you! This may be a dumb question, but is the official Warn 10-s winch cover able to fit given it sits so snugly in the bumper? About to do the same install myself and have held off ordering the cover.
I have the same winch and bumper. Have you figured out a way to replace the winch rope when needed? Hope it can be done without removing the bumper. Sure looks nice.
I think the warn winch co should have planned the install better they messed up not right you had to drill & auto part store to complete your install. Great Job
Great Video! Request part info on your license plate bracket.
Was hoping to see how the license plate worked
Had trouble getting a SmittyBuilt XRC Gen 3 Fairlead and Warn Filler Plate installed on a JL with Steel Bumper and The Warn Winch Plate. The Bolts were two short two mount the Fairlead and Filler Plate. I got longer Bolts but the Fairlead and Filler Plate had some up and down play. Did you notice that? I’m worried that under load the Fairlead could slip down and then the rope would be on the rough edge of the plate. I see in your video there is what appears to be a bolt coming through the back of the bumper where the filler plate and Fairlead will be. What is that? I don’t have that? Thanks for any help!
Great video ! Were you able to get the skid plate back on. I'd greatly appreciate tips on how to reinstall the skid plate.

I was, but I had to elongate the holes slightly with a drill bit
What were those jack things you use to lift the vehicle? The ones you drove up onto? Can you link to those for sale somewhere?
Very detail video but removing the bumper seems a bit too much for me not very good with fixing my own car thanks for the great video
Your Step by step video was A-1. Question: after removing your factory skid plate to allow for the winch plate installation it left your sway bar disconnect actuator assembly exposed to potential damage. Is that ok with you? Thanks for the vid.
Question. Why did you need to pull the LED wiring harness clips before reinstalling the bumper? Checking before installing one myself. Thx.
Did you add a 3/4” spacer to the front to offset heavy Winch weight or measure to see how much it sagged the front?
@DamonBungard
6 жыл бұрын
i did not add a spacer to the front, and measured no notable sag after installation.
I have this JL rubicon with the steel bumper , my question is how strong is it when using the winch , I’m assuming they did there hone work for super strong but just curious
great vid. was wondering what kind of city & highway mpg you get? is yours a 8 speed auto?
@DamonBungard
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, automatic, and I get around 16-20 city/hwy.
So I have a question that nobody has really covered in the many Warn winch install videos I've watched. But why on the bumper is it suggested to remove the fog light wiring from their connectors? Not really sure why that is needed unless it interferes with the plate. But even then how does it get put back in that case.
Was there any particular reason you decided on the Zeon over the Evo?
You mentioned that the winch was “JL Ready” I haven’t seen anything in Warn’s literature where you can designate that. How did you make sure that it would fit the Jeep bumper
@DamonBungard
3 жыл бұрын
this video is from a few years ago and what made it 'JL' ready was throw lever turning just 90 degrees when they had been turning 180 degrees. They needed to change to 90 degrees to prevent interference. At the time Warn was shipping them with an added sticker on the box. I'd imagine that by now they just make them all with 90 degree levers.
In another video you spoke about 4” rock rails you bought. Could you please send me the website for that?
@DamonBungard

I bought mine direct from the parts department at our local dealership using a Mopar coupon, but here there are at Quadratec also: www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/performance-style-rock-rails-jeep-wrangler-jl
Where can I get the spacer license plate bracket could you share link please?
I’m waiting on delivery of my winch… just wondering if you think it is possible to tighten the bumper bolts and then drop the winch into place?
@DamonBungard
2 жыл бұрын
unfortunately I don't think that would work
Was your winch plate angled downward to some degree?
You think the Zeon 10 s non JL ready would got fit ? I have one but the lever moves all the way around , I’m think just cutting a little bumper . What u think?
@DamonBungard

You need to call Warn customer service and they will send you the upgrade kit that changes your lever from 180 to 90 degrees rotation.
Did you notice the additional front weight while driving and cornering after installing the winch?
@DamonBungard
4 жыл бұрын
not really -- with it being a synthetic winch line, that's much lighter than steel (and I did notice the weight when I added a steel winch on my old JKU Rubicon)
Hello. By chance, do you have a link to where you got the JL-ready Zeon 10S? when I look up that part number, the screenshots do not show if it is "JL-ready" or not. And that 90 degree lock shows a 180 degree turn instead. Thanks.

Does this kit include the fairlead?
nice jeep. I test drove a 2018 rubicon at the local dealership today(Columbus Ohio) with 17k miles on it.The sticker was 40k....Is that the going rate or are they being greedy?

I am not exactly for sure but my suspension is that fitting winch brackets for the steel bumper differ between the JK and JL. Thus all the fuss trying to get a Zeon to fit the JL and finding a bracket that will work. As of 5/6/18 the only bracket I found that works is the recently released Warn bracket. I even contacted Rusty’s and they had not released their bracket for this configuration yet.
God jop
is the winch plate the same for the JL Rubicon 2 door as it is for the 4 door? I have the 2018 JL Rubicon 2 door

Just installed it on my 2016 Jeep Rubicon Hardrock 75 Anniversary Edition and it fit like a glove. Didn't run into any problems on the skid plate, and a 18mm Box wrench got those hard to reach nuts.
I’m trying to understand why you removed the bumper to install the winch?
@DamonBungard

removing the bumper is required, there's not enough opening on top just lower the winch down in. Warn has good instructions outlining each step.

@@DamonBungard Oh, I thought it could just slip down it after removing the top plate..
Hey Damon were you able to get the 4 inner flange nuts on? I had the same problem and it could be done, it just takes time. The Zeon 10s has to be on there loose. you need to push it to one side. Then slightly tilt your bumper up and start the inner top flange nut. The flange nut has to be in front of the winch. You'll need a short socket to start and a swivel or flex drive. Let me know how it turns out. . . .

If you have common sense it's a decent walkthrough to show you the stepsbut I highly recommend watching a few other ones before you attempt the same installation all the problems he had could have been avoided
So the bumper isnt winch ready?? You gotta buy a winch plate?
@DamonBungard
4 жыл бұрын
yes, you'll need a winch plate as part of the mounting kit. It's 'winch ready' in the sense you can mount a winch in it without having to replace it, but you do need the plate.
Yo you could also just let a jeep dealer do it for you, I know that its not the most manliest thing in the world but if you aren't comfortable or are afraid that you might brake it, then let Jeep do it for you.
