How to Install a SunSetter® Awning

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Please Subscribe to my Channel! 17ft SunSetter installed against Vinyl Siding. Make sure you have at LEAST 2 people for this installation. Finding the studs is the hardest part of the entire installation. After we found the studs and marked off the location the entire project took about 2 hours.

Professional awning installer here. It is important to locate your brackets on studs closest to where the arms attach to the mounting bar. The arms want to twist that bar when the awning is out and mounting close the arms will prevent undue twisting. On the right side of his awning, those brackets are too far from the arm.

Video was helpful on the attaching of the brackets paying attention to stud finding needs and making sure about using a level with chalk line. You picked a 10 ft. height attaching for the Sunsetter except you did not give the height of the awning when fully extended. Can it be addjusted if you are not satisfied with the open clearance?

QQ - how would I determine the proper height of the awning? Does the awning adjust up/down at all? If not do you know how to find out the total extended height at the awning's furthest point? So say I am 10' off the deck at the wall but when fully extended its height is 8.5'.

Sorry guys. I would never mount an awning straight to the vinyl siding. Gust of wind or just windy conditions and those brackets are going to work their way through the vinyl resulting in splitting of the siding and loose lag bolts. I would put up a 2x6 or 2x8 header first and then mount the brackets to it. I would remove the siding where the header goes first and then mount the board directly to the wall and studs, replacing the siding around it afterwards with a drip flashing on top and caulk it up. A lot more work, but very secure. Still like you videos...just my opinion on this one. Just saw reviews on another quicker option I haven’t tried....a product called “Siding Savers”. You can Google or see it on KZread. Says it can be used to mount a deck facia to vinyl so this may be a whole lot safer and simpler.

Best to use aluminum sleeve spacers behind the brackets that go through the wall and sit at the surface of the stud. This will keep the brackets slightly off the vinyl and not crush it. I bet if it's breezy and the awning is moving you can hear the brackets rubbing on the vinyl from inside the house.

I install awnings for a living and I can say that the best method is to make a notch in the vinyl siding where it has a bend and place a 1/2 or 3/4 inch block of wood to prevent buckling or compression of the vinyl siding. You then leg bolt the bracket thru the wood blocks into the studs. Cheers.

I do, but I'm mindful of windy days. Also, there is a sensor that retracts the sunsetter at 15mph gusts

Looks like you live in the Philly area. If I'm right, any chance you could come on out and help me install mine? I have the awning here, access to the back patio is easy, the outlet is there for power. Should be pretty straight forward. I just need a hand from someone that knows what they are doing. If you are interested, respond here and I'll give you my email. I'll gladly compensate you well for your time. Thanks for the video!
