How To Install A Russian Bayonet Filter - PMK-2 and PMK-3 Gas Mask

Taken directly from the English version of the manual, here is a guide on how to install bayonet filters on a MB-2 facepiece.
This technique can be applied to the PMK-2 set as well.

Users should handle the PMK-3 bayonet filter with care. In my experience, the air deflector filter cap is fragile and can easily break off, just from the tension of the rubber plug pushing against it from the filter.

Absolutely true. Mine was already broken when my mask arrived. I glued it back together just for this videos, and broke again right after filming.

@@pripyathawks8592 Thank you for pinning my comment and public service announcement. To me, that cap is the most frustrating part of owning a PMK-3. No wonder few bother using the air deflector inside the mask. You are the first person I've seen who used it, as per instructions. Nevertheless, I think the PMK-3 is a great gas mask for collectors, especially if you have the complete kit.

@@alexanderdegtyarev1675 The mask itself is good in my opinion. The filter system is a bit odd and I had to struggle with it for a time before understanding it. Most of the mask's bad reputation comes from the bayonet filter. But with this video I hope that people will now understand the system and also accept it.

Excellent video. The translation was very difficult but you did an outstanding job between what is really three languages for you. Your video enabled me to attach my filter to a mask I recently purchased. Thank you very much this was excellent.

There is a canteen that you can get to drink whilst wearing the mask. I have tried it a couple of times and works fine. The adaptor for the canteen comes with the bag

Do you know how to put the Blanking Plug in? I have a PMK 2 with a KB-2 (EO-1-15-01) Filter and possibly full kit, however its very hard to get the plug in, trying to put it in via the inside of the mask is hard as I need to stretch the rubber out but that ends up with he blanking plug getting ejected outwards

The same way as the filter: one hand holding it from the outside and the other hand stretching the rubber from inside the mask.

Hello, quick question. What do you guys recommend for cleaning the rubber? I recently purchased a PMK-3 and it is very I suppose I could say crumbly. It is clearly the rubber aging. But is there a type of oil or product I can apply to the mask to slow or stop this from happening? It is a white film all over the rubber.

Just use warm water and soap to clean it up. No need for further products on it.

The white stuff on the mask is used for storage in the warehouses it came from. So far all of the Russian masks that I’ve bought have had it on them. It’s called talic
