How To Install Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt: Installing a Lori deadbolt. The Lori Deadbolt can be a little bit confusing, because most deadbolts have the screws on the inside, so it's pretty easy to figure out how to remove it, its double cylinders are a little different, so most of our Kwikset, Weiser, and Schlage deadbolts is pretty simple. You have a couple of screws, you take it out the traditional way. The Lori Deadbolts have a set screw hidden along the side of the bolt. You will need a 5/16-inch long-shaft Allen wrench to install or remove the set screws.
Tools to Install Lori Deadbolt
- Phillips screwdriver
- 5/16-inch long-shaft Allen wrench
- Open the Door
- Detach the slide bolt faceplate from the door edge by removing the two flathead screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
- Remove the thumb latch assembly from the interior side of the door, if applicable, by removing the two screw bolts on either side of the latch handle, then pulling the assembly horizontally from the door.
- Slip the long shaft of a 5/16-inch Allen wrench into the space on either side of the slide bolt to engage in the cylinder set screws and turn the set screw counterclockwise two to three full turns to loosen.
- Repeat for the set screw on the other side of the slide bolt.
- Remove the deadbolt cylinders by turning the cylinders counterclockwise until the cylinder is free of the mortise housing. You can insert the deadbolt’s key into the cylinder for leverage in turning the cylinder.
- Repeat for the opposite side cylinder in double-keyed models.
- Pull the slide bolt assembly from the door edge, then remove the cylinder housing from the door hole.

Your camera angles are great, makes the videos easy to follow. The latest version I have been receiving come with a slightly more ADA friendly thumb turn that requires simple but confusing assembly. I like these locks, they are quite durable, especially if a drive in latch is required.

Nice video! This lock is one of the most modular deadbolts out there. You can turn it into any function you like by simply by changing the cylinders. So if the building is often changing room function, this works a treat without having to change out the whole lock. Its larger bolt and low profile outside also makes it rather resistant to forced entry attacks too :)

I’ve seen a few of these videos now, and I can’t find one that shows how to deal with the matching doorframe side and installing that part. Frustrated 70 year old woman who’s never had to do this!!! Thanks though for this part.

They’re a good lock to have “just in case” you need an extra lock to match customers existing keyway and you don’t want to carry extra of everything in every finish. They can be pricey though.

Hi Terry thanks so much for the excellent video (as all your videos are). Quick question: I’ve bought an old house that the previous owner at some point installed double cylinder Lori locks on all exterior doors. They’re a giant pain because if the deadbolt is locked you have to have a key to unlock it from the inside to let someone in. I want to convert it to a basic single cylinder lock with a simple knob in the inside for easy locking and unlocking without the key . Can I easily convert mine, and keep the same common house key?

Yes you can. Remove the inside mortise cylinder and install a mortise cylinder thumb turn.

I was talking to schlage one day… and everyone pronounces it differently… so. I asked… they said it's with a hard "g"… schlegg,

Holy cow, what on earth were they smoking when they came up with this design? We have a similar thing here in Australia that uses what we call a 570 cylinder... Made by a company called Lemaar... And it's terrible. Surely it's design simply adds cost and no actual benefits whatsoever over a tibolt style, 8221 cylinder deadbolt.
