Ойын-сауық

This is how I install my LEDs into brass steam locomotives. This is an Overland Models M3as CNJ. I hope this video helps. If there are any questions, please leave a comment.

    I take the MV lense and drill carefully from the back and about half way through, do not rip the foil, just make hole. I canopy glue a 0603 led to the back. Not as bright, but looks like a light bulb in a reflector. I really like the look, even turned off. To bad MV lenses are no longer available.

    This is going to help a lot with my B6sb. I just need the tools, LEDs, and Wowsound decoder.

    Did you use a resister in line with the 402 inline to the decoder? Which decoder brand did you use?

    Man I wish there was a place to buy a good MV lens for my locomotive 😅 anyone know a place?

    Unfortunately I’ve only found decent sized MV lenses at train shows

    I don’t know if you’ve done one? But could you do a tutorial on how you would replace the front dummy coupler on a brass loco?

  • @OvernightScaleModels

    @OvernightScaleModels

    That’s a good idea. I can plan for one in the future. The tough thing is, all the importers have different requirements needed to replace the front coupler

    @@OvernightScaleModels yeah, I’m sure everyone has their own requirements for replacements. If you’re looking for suggestions I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to get it done on a Sunset PRR A5 hahaha

    Is it possible to buy brass headlight castings in HO that are already "hollowed out" for lights and lenses?

  • @OvernightScaleModels

    @OvernightScaleModels

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes and no. Almost all headlight castings have a hole big enough for the correct size MV Lens or any other lens. Almost none of the headlight castings come with being pre drilled. Some brass models actually have the lights pre drilled (ex: my ATSF Sunset 2-8-0, ATSF Balboa 0-6-0). Almost all modern brass models roughly made after 1990s have either holes or actual lights installed. If you're concerned about drilling, I started out drilling by hand before finding a nice foot pedaled drill. Sure, it's painful and takes a long time, but it'll be worth it!

    What size drill bit did you use? I got my sunset Santa fe 4-8-2 I mentioned before and it needs to be drilled out.

    What brand of model is that? Are some of those detail parts available separately?

    This is an Overland model. And all the detail came like that from the factory. Maybe Precision Scale may have similar detail parts

  • @OvernightScaleModels

    More than likely, yes. Almost all brass models boiler face pops off. That's really the main concern.

    Unfortunately they are very hard to find. It’s called MV Lens. They’ve been out of business for many many years. eBay or train shows are the best bet. Some hobby shops still has some left over. Best of luck!

    It’s a SMD LED 402. I get the warm white version on eBay. I highly recommend the pre-wired version. Getting these without wires soldered on is cheaper, but will be a huge pain to solder on wires onto a led the size of a flea!

    Question I am.gettimg into model scale trains I want too set train. Around my house on the wall what's a good scale that would be a good for my family and friends too see and enjoy I want a cheap decent train with smoke a lights as well what do you recommend I was thinking a ho train I haven't been too a model train store in az yet too look around can you give me your opinion please and thank you for reading my post

  • @OvernightScaleModels

    @OvernightScaleModels

    Жыл бұрын

    Definitely going to say HO scale. It's big enough for a smoke equipped engine and cheap-ish. I know there are a couple of AZ train shops. Obies Trains has been recommended to me a couple of times. If you're looking for a decent train with smoke and cheap, Bachmann makes starter sets that has an engine, a couple of cars and track for an oval. Some of the steam sets has smoke equipped and all that is needed is smoke fluid. Although I wouldn't go this route if you're trying to have a train along the wall. I would get flex track and wood to mount along the wall. The engine I would get is Broadway limited. There's enough on ebay for some engine that are decently priced. They should say on the box if they have smoke, most of them do. If you need track laying help, there are so many videos on KZread to help. I hope I helped a bit! Best of luck!
