How to install a heat pump and save on heating your swimming pool

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How much does a heat pump cost? How much heat does a it provide?
How do you install an inverter heat pump? How much energy does a heat pump consume? What is the consumption?
All questions that Nicole answers in the video.
Our small pool is pretty warm in the summer, but it is almost never so comfortable that you stay in it for a long time. Especially when we have a bad summer, the water temperature doesn't rise above 23 degrees (73.4℉ahrenheit).
To be able to enjoy our plunge longer, we purchased a heat pump. We also looked at other ways to heat our pool, such as solar mats, solar lily pads, wood stove and solar collectors. We have also made a solar heater ourselves. (See video on our channel) This did heat something, but much too little. Often swimming pool heaters cost a lot of energy, the energy bill became very high, it was cumbersome or they made a lot of noise.
And so we set out to research a better solution and see if we could save on our energy consumption.
We chose a W'eau Mini Inverter 4kW pool heat pump from pool store Toppy. This one would make little noise and is not expensive for heating your pool.
In this video we tested whether the price/quality ratio is good, how to install this inverter heat pump with a bypass, what the energy consumption is and gives Nicole a final verdict.

Thank you for the English sub-titles version. I spent 10 years as a nationally certified aquatics technician. Absolutely love your use of union valves and threaded fittings wherever possible to facilitate future repairs or revisions. The professionalism of the thought processes that went into that layout and the execution of the installation, puts it in the top 10% of what you would have received from a pool contractor. Yet another example of what an intelligent individual with the will to do the research, and the skills to execute the plan is capable of. You are just an amazing extraordinary person! Thanks for sharing🙏🏻

This has given me a lot of food for thought, thank you Nicole. I live in Western Australia and of course summer is optimal pool weather, but the winter is not, and I have always wondered about extending the swimming season into winter, if the daytime temperature is at 10C then having a warm pool, at even 24 degrees is worth contemplating. My pool is considerabley larger than yours, 60 000 litres, but this is certainly doable, especially if I add solar panels into the equation.

Yes, having a swimmingpool (that you can actually use), is so nice! I am jealous by the way when I read about the 60.000 liters 🤩

great video, thank you! only slight check I would do is about water flow, you only seem to allow minimum flow for heat pump to operate, if your output pipe is warmer than your input, you should increase the flow, it's not much but will increase your efficiency. As I can see in the manual, they measure temperature diff output-input = 2°C. If you have more diff you sacrifice efficiency.

Im just about ready to buy the same heater. Question... Were you able to heat your pool more than 82° Ilike to get mine to 86°, 87°. Do u think this heater you have (same one im buying) could get my 3200 gallon pool to that temperature?

One thing is missing…. Take cold output from heat pump and send it out into your home…. To cool the air, spend less on your home ac while reusing the energy…. All you need is a big duct trunk wrapped around the heat pump. I think cost of the pool for the whole season is minimum. Also maintain the air flow to match 2000 liters by equating the input and output from the regulator valves. This will result in less friction and increase efficiency. Last but not least combine it with solar which you have already done which is great. Final part is automate the pool cover to shade off the pool automatically as it gets dark and no movement nearby present. (Add few motion sensors for that.) Heat pump will maintain, the temperature to support…. consistent load…. Which will be minimum…. Also add some LEDs for extract wow factor and a little marbleized water fountain then you will be all set.

Hey Nicole, how does it work with your pool pump? Does the heat pump turn your pool pump on itself when it needs to run or did you install a heater switch to over ride your pool pump timer?

Very good video. I appreciate your breakdown to determine if the heater was worth getting. It would be a shame to have worked so hard to build the pool, only for the water to be too cold to use it. It looks like it was definitely a good, solid purchase.

Hoe doe je het in de winter als het vriest . bevriest je warmtepomp dan niet of haal je het bad leeg om de leidingen te beschermen.
