Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Learn how to install a new dash pad and instrument bezel in your Dodge truck. Kevin Tetz walks you through the installation steps. Basic hand tools and a few hours time are all you need to complete this truck project.
These new Dodge dash components were developed exclusively by LMC Truck using improved heat-resistant compounds to resist shrinking and fading. They fit well, look original, and will bring back the showroom-new look to the interior of your Dodge truck. This will be the last dashboard your Dodge will ever need.

1998-2002 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500

I recently purchased and install a new LMC dash pad. I found that if you remove the three screws the hold the dash pad vent tubes to the dash frame ,( they can be accessed from under the dash) you can remove the old dash pad and vent tube as one assembly. Transfer the vent tubes to the new dash pad and reinstall. No need to remove the complete dash, just pivot it out toward the seat a little. Lowering the steering column and removing the passenger air bag are required. The LMC dash pad fits perfect. No squeaks or rattles even on rough gravel roads. I also purchased a new LMC grill for my truck, again a perfect fit. Both items are as good as OEM Dodge parts or better. Very satisfied.

I purchased the dash pad from LMC expecting a less than OE fit and finish, but I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you LMC Truck for the pats and the video! The replacement of the pad was not as difficult as one might expect. My wife helped me get the dash assembly out and in the truck. I might have been able to use my shop crain, but hook up options ran the risk of cracking the new pad due to lack of support where the straps would need to go. Be prepared for a can of worms. I am a aircraft technician, so my approach to maintenance is more critical than most. Having the dash out, I took the opportunity the replace the heater core; evaporator coil; all foam in the air box and several wiring repairs and upgrades. The aftermarket heater core and evap are substandard when compared to OE.

The dash pad alone could be done in a day if everything goes smooth. While I had it out and on the bench, I did some wiring repairs and upgrades, replaced the heater core, evap core and overhauled the air box. I did forget to swap my VIN tag over to the new pad. Too late now, it's long gone in the trash. DMV says missing/lost VIN tags is kinda common because of the plastic pads and will give me a sticker.@@edwincastelar-db8mi

So i did this process, but i did it quite differently. i was able to leave all the connection on my steering wheel and just took off the shift indicater on it and lowered the steering wheel about 6 inches. i then took out all the screws and simply brought the dash forward, since mine was cracked so badly i was just able to use a small screw driver to unloosen the 3 screws holding the vent/defroster. i then transfer all the defroster ducts to the new dash then was able to drop the new dash and defrosters in and put in all the screws, this honestly saved me about a hour or two of time and looks completely factory and had all the bolts line up. Also i still have the defroster working

i pulled my dash on a 98 2500 and the underlying plastic frame was broken in a few places. i am glad i pulled the dash out. the insulation under the dash is cheap rubber over old musty sponge foam. i am putting in new insulation and soundproofing under the old dash first and cleaning all the incredible 20 years of dirt because of no cabin filter. doing a cabin filter mod as well from genos garage by doing some of my own mods as they dont make one for a 98 that i can find. in the end, it should work out fine I hope. there is no way the guy in this video pulled that dash out by himself. i had to get my neighbor to help me carry it out of the truck so i didnt damage it any further. its made like crap so be careful if you do this. but in the end i think it will be worth it. i gutted the entire cab while i was at it to put in new insulation and soundproofing from LMC truck, and new carpet.

I had to jigsaw chunks of the dash core with popsicle sticks and epoxy… then gently removed the core from the metal frame and put fiberglass cloth and resin on back side of the entire core. It was tedious, but it solidified the entire core and it seems to line up with this LMC dash. I have a short video of the fiberglass on my channel. More to follow …. One thing, if you have a 98 with the power plug in the bezel, the ones that are aftermarket won’t work…. At least they didn’t for me. Good luck.

Ok, just did this to my 2001 2500 using the LMC dash and bezel. Be extremely careful in handling the lower dash core - you can see this one is broke at about the 5:00 mark, mine was broke much worse from years of being exposed. I had to glue wood in for structure and then glue the remain cracks back together. This core is NOT available anywhere and is discontinued by OEM, and any used ones are going to be garbage as well. Best not to destroy yours as much as possible, as all the controls mount to it. It's criminal that Dodge didn't recall this junk, or offer an upgrade. I will not pull my dash again, as I don't think it will survive it. Also, this is not an easy project, you'll need patience to deal with the crumbling dash and all the connections that this vid glosses over. The positives of the project is the LMC dash does look good and fit well. It is slightly different color, but that is an age and exposure factor more than anything and a casual glance will never know it. I've had this truck since new, it's nice to have a proper dash back in it.

yes, it was criminal of Dodge. absolutely unbelievable that it went on for nearly 10 years and they never fixed the issue, then gave all of us the middle finger because it wasn't a "safety issue". @@walterk1221 Mine was missing a large portion of the top of the core, right above the where the AC controls mount. I solved it by using a two part epoxy to glue a piece of wood, which I then contoured to make sure the AC controls would screw into the right place. My biggest problem was that there wasn't anything left to glue together, except a jigsaw puzzle worth of plastic at the bottom. I wasn't about to do that, so the wood piece was a quick fix, and is quite sturdy now. Mostly, you can just feel the whole thing crumbling every time I handled it. Thanks for the tip on the glue, I did make a note of that for future use.

Only thing that got me was how to disconnect the parking cable that’s connected to the speedometer. That’s probably the only curb. You have screws on the top by the window and two bolts on driver side and passenger side. That’s all that holds it up. Everything else is disconnecting plugs. Take it all out. It’s harder trying to save time trying to move the dashboard slightly forward and trying to screw backwards it only wastes time

Update! with the help of a friend, I have installed my new dash cover from LMC Truck. Here are some tips that Mr. Tetz was weak on; there are THREE connectors that need to be released from the in-dash fuse panel, they are color coded thusly: top Blue, middle White and bottom Brown. If and when you break any parts off the "under-dash" they can be glued back into place with Gorilla glue CLEAR. My steering column didn't lower down to the seat, so it was a challenge to lift the dash assembly over the steering wheel. Lastly, I chose to apply insulation tape found at Home Depot to as much of the HVAC vents as I could reach, should make for cooler A/C and warmer heat. Hope this helps

@@walterk1221 I have a friend who is a retired Ford mechanic, and he agreed that most dealers use a book time to estimate charges. The problem with that is that the book charge is based on a worst-case scenario on how long the job SHOULD take. Not how long the job actually takes. For instance, a few days ago, I went to my local Dodge dealer to ask what they would charge to splice in a new headlight connector plug, which I am told should take no longer than an hour. They wanted $290.00, and that didn't include the part, which they want another $190 for! My dealer's hourly rate is $115 per hour, so they are "booking" me for 2-3/4 hours for a simple soldering job. A private shop is only going to charge me $100, and I got a junk yard part for $20, which is about all that part should be NEW.

don't know whether to go with the oem dash or aftermarket replacement (not a dash cover). the oem, as noted, has about 14 screws that attach to the defrosting ducts, and a couple of other things, with screws that are UNDER the dashboard and, with the heads facing FORWARD. only way to get those screws in is to remove the dash completely, like this video shows, or remove the defrost ducting completely and then assemble the new dash and the ducting, THEN install them as one unit. (i'm not even sure that that is possible) anyway, the other alternative is to buy a non-oem (aftermarket) replacement dash that does away with even trying to secure the dash to the defrosting ducts (and a few other things), leaving only the 8 or so longish screws at the front the screw into the firewall. they come in shiny black and i imagine are not textured. or i may buy the oem dash and bezel without the inaccessable screws. there are 8 or so at the front an plenty under the bezel and around the air bag. it will be the rattling that i'll be worried about...

Just ordered a dash pad for my 01'. Already replaced the Dash in my 99' with a Geno's Garage. The fit was good but it comes unpainted. I spent forever trying to find the factory Mist Grey paint. When I ordered it online it never came in the mail with the dash. I called every company I could find that carries it and they all said it was out of stock. Went to a Dodge dealership to find it and they said that the paint was discontinued so there was no option for me to get it exactly like factory so it's a shade off. It fits decently but slightly rattles. Going to do it right the first time with this one for my 01'. Best of all it's already paint matched so no headache trying to find the color and prime / paint it myself.

I am going to do the dash pad/bezel replacement without pulling the dash. BUT.. everyone should know, that it is the plastic parts of the CORE dash, that break as bad as the pad and bezel. Its a total bitch to try to fix the broken parts for controls mounting. Replacing just the pad and bezel will look better, but be prepared, the actual dash mount ( core) that have plastic parts to mount electronics, breaks EXTREMELY easy. So if you try to do just the pad and the bezel, take great care in taking it apart. I spent more time coming up with ways to try to fix the mounting parts because I didnt have time to... FIND a frame/core somewhere, pull the core, and replace it.

I am attempting to remove my dash entirely in my 1998 Ram 1500, here is what is giving me fits, the wiring harness doesn't seem to be attached the same in the vid, this job is not for the average shade tree wrench turner, and I thought I was a bit more than average. I wish that Tetz would have shown the dash being removed from the truck as it's not a one man job. One other point, don't try to do this job by leaning the dash away from the windshield unless you want to fumble about with a stubby screw drive. It's definitely a 4 out of 5 for difficulty

Not a four hour job
