How To Install A Basement Sump Pump Basin

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey guys, today I’m replacing our sump pump system. The old owner put in this above-ground pump for the ac condensation and laundry. I’m going to clean this up and install an in-ground sump pump basin to make more space and make it look better.

    Love jobs like this, when you perceiver with something, but then take your time to plan how you want it to look, then deliver the improvement & are then proud of what you've done. Looks good & keep up the good work.

    "short shovel" A post-hole digger works pretty good. You can probably rent them.

    I was limited with space because the stares are directly over top of the home and had maybe 4 feet of head space. But that is a great idea is you have more room. Thanks!! 😊

    Really well done - I think I'll stuff a rag in the top hole when I do mine to keep the concrete from entering the basin.+

    Great video, thanks. Had same thought as someone else about post hole digger, and also like someone else have read that crushed stone in the bottom useful

    Very nice video, but I really could have lived without the music track. I'm planning to do this soon, but I may use a jack hammer instead of a concrete saw, and I definitely will be using a 6" auger to do the digging! (I have a gas-powered auger, but can power the auger bit from a 1/2" drill to avoid getting dangerous exhaust fumes in the basement.)

    Thanks! Yeah I would have loved to use a post hole digger but I have not room unfortunately. Good luck with your project! 😃

    @@SimonSaysDIY For future reference, augers are available in all sizes. My 6" auger mounted to a 1/2" drill would have fit in the space you had. Maybe the gas-powered one wouldn't, but I wouldn't use that in the basement anyway without some serious ventilation being provided first. (Note on exhaust fumes: In the aftermath of one of the hurricanes, I put my generator inside the door of my 8'x6'x8' greenhouse (to keep it out of the rain) and left the door and the two vents open. I could reach the starter rope and electrical sockets from outside the greenhouse. Nonetheless, I had to hold my breath to access the generator, the fumes built up so quickly, and never considered actually entering the greenhouse while it was in there. Never underestimate the danger of running a gas engine indoors. (If I were ever to do this again, I'd either place the thing under a canopy only, or run a fan from the generator to ventilate the space.)

    I can just imagine how much this job would cost if a contractor did it. Good job, looks as well done as a professional would do.

    I’m actually paying $3100 right now. This includes installation of the pump, 10’ of inside drainage, and 20’ of schedule 40 pipe outside the house. I planned on doing it myself but for the time and aggravation I’ll let the professionals do it. I’ve received quotes upwards of $4,000 just to have the pump installed. Inside perimeter drainage is a different story that can be big money depending on your square footage.

    Nice job but a couple of critical components are missing. First, was the discharge line 2 inch or 1-1/2? For gray water discharge it has to be 2". Plus, no vent stack which is also required. You can always install a vent stack with an AAV if you don't have access to the vent line.

    Did you tie into the homes sewer line?

  • @SimonSaysDIY

    @SimonSaysDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, because the clothes washer pumps into this basin it is considered gray water. Where we are located you have to pump gray water into the sewer to be legal. If this was just rain or spring water drainage you should be able to send it wherever you want.

    Thanks! Question: should a sump pump basen be perforated ?

  • @SimonSaysDIY

    @SimonSaysDIY

    In this case no, because I am pumping gray water from our washer into it and you wouldn’t want it to leak into the ground. There might be instances when you would want to but I wouldn’t recommend it.

    Why concrete.. it likely cant mitigate a rising water table under the slab now..

  • @SimonSaysDIY

    I’m on top of a hill somewhat and the water table doesn’t rise much. But this your right, having something with holes would allow water from under your house to drain and potentially avoid future problems.

    Don't forget the higher the elevation the sump pump has to lift the water the less GPM it will pump.
