At what point would you got to pin and sleeve receptacle?

Great 480 volt wiring colors but not required in NEC book but should be. If.one uses a color format.like B O Y you must label every 480 volt panel. I always apply a few layers of quality ( not the crap from lying cheating scum bag china ) on all devices just in case water enters box.

Are there any downsides to using 480v compared to 120/240? My understanding is that 480v has a much higher tendency to arc.

More expensive equipment. Your 480v panels and breakers are going to cost much more than your standard single phase 120/240v panel and breakers.

That is about all, 480v is much better in high power applications period. I mean if you did lower voltage and a higher current it would actually be even more expensive because amps = cost. Amperage means thicker everything to carry the load. 480 can arc, only drawback, but not like a 13.8kv line can. Arc flash is dangerous. Try to work on dead lines is key, or a lot of training and using proper ppe gear too.
In my experience, it doesn't matter which side you insert the wires when the receptacle has pressure plates. That only matters when making hooks that are looped around a terminal screw. In that case, the loop should go around the screw in a clockwise manner so that the screw will close/tighten the hook.

applies to pressure plates as well, but as long as it doesnt fall out then that works too. some people like it on a certain side, and i understand that. i just do it the same way as if it were a hook and screw ☺️

@@DailyElectrician is it just the typical red/blue/yellow type? I'd think the cheap AL in those things wouldn't fly but I gave no idea what they are rated.

Does it matter which phase goes to each screw?
@DailyElectrician

i dont think so, obviously the ground needs to go to the ground screw.
@Alex-jo2oi

@@DailyElectrician true. I mean it makes sense that it wouldn’t matter bc each phase provides the necessary voltage. I only ask bc I know with motors and such, it does matter.

The receptacle he installed in this video is a Nema L16-30R. Its a 3 phase and grounding twist lock device. Twist lock devices are very common in industrial and common in commercial too.
Isn’t that a 240 volt instead of 480 volt?

it's for 480. not sure if also compatable with 240.
