    Practice,Practice,Practice so your punches fly off your shoulders effortlessly. Stay loose and relaxed so you muscles don't fight against themselves. I made the mistake in my early years by standing too close to the target. Create the space where the opponent is at the end of the punch and not land while the arm is still bent which smothers the power a bit.

    Snapping at the end of your punches really generates power and its faster then throwing a limp stiff arm.

    Do you recommend throwing straight punches with a horizontal fist,a vertical fist or with the your fist turned all the way over and your thumb pointing at the floor. I usually throw them with my fist diagonal(halfway between vertical and horizontal) but the guy on millionstylesboksing says that you have to throw them with your thumb pointing at the floor

That is what the trainer suggest i do, but he suggested that i also do a kickboxing class on thursday because he said it will help me with my leg muscles, leg conditioning, balance, and help me rotate my hips for power. Is it good 2 take it or no?

    This is a hard question to answer because there are so many variations and ways to do things. Generally, the fist is horizontal, unless you're throwing uppercuts. For the advanced answer, it depends on where your head is positioned. The more your head is over your front foot, the more you can rotate it comfortably/naturally. The more your head is on the back foot, the more the fist rotates the other way. So it depends on your weight distribution. The goal is to be natural.

    It's about projecting downward energy through your body, not actually aiming your fist downwards. Your fist needs to aim at the target, wherever that may be, but generate power by sinking your hips and grounding.

    I am gonna post a rather stupid question now,I broke my nose in sparring 7 days ago,now each time I spar and get hit in my nose,it hurts like hell,I mean its already damaged and I dont know if its safe to continue hard sparring like that,I went to a doctor and he told me to take a month off now this sounds outrageous,no sparring for the whole month,would not it be a huge loss of time,so I am asking if it is wise to continue sparring or take my time to recover and then start sparring again?I mean is it gonna be a that big issue that I actually have to stop sparring,or should I keep on with my sparring,and btw any tips for the recovery(lol) of my nose?

  • @expertboxing

    It's not about punching up or down, it's about the muscles you use. Regardless of where you aim (whether it be high/med/low), you will generate maximum power if you use the right muscles. I'm recommending for people to MOVE body weight downwards, not punch downwards. it would be silly to limit attack angles. Of course, certain punching angles will give you more power depending on the angle of your body (straight up, leaning forward, or leaning backward).

    If your hips and shoulders are both turning in the same direction, that would in turn mean that your spine is also turning in the same direction. Essentially saying the same thing... But thinking about turning your spine helps mentally to turn your whole body faster and harder, ultimately producing a more powerful punch, because you are recruiting more muscles, and moving faster.

  • @expertboxing

    jacob phelps I agree with Cliff. If anything, forearm strength helps to PREVENT power leak, it doesn't necessarily add power. Just having your forearm in the right position (at the right time) will do more for you than how hard you can squeeze your hand together.

    The key to punching power is punch technique, punch location and a well developed Physique. "Physique is the most neglected phase of athletics." - Bruce Lee Work on your core legs and upper body strength individually and functionally to develop the best physique. Your workout will affect your fighting style so do what works best for you. PS. I'm not a coach or guru or anything I'm a regular guy who's done his own research

    thank you for this I now know it means when a commentator says "He really sat down on that punch" or he " he really sank that one in" Separate question when you talk about boxers using their core for power is this anyway related to chi in martial arts as the "Navel area" is where chi is stored?

  • @expertboxing

    @expertboxing

    10 жыл бұрын

    When I say "using the core", I'm referring to using your core muscles (mostly in the abdominal and pelvic areas). "Chi" I think is referred to energy and not so much about a muscle.

    I disagree with your gravity theory, punching downward may have a slight power advantage with gravity but its very minor, almost unnoticeable. While punching at a slight upward angle versus just straight out from your chest or shoulder level, your able to use your upper shoulder muscles in conjunction with your chest and legs muscles to transfer the power

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing11 жыл бұрын

    Your punches are less powerful if your CENTER OF GRAVITY goes up. Your punches can go in whatever direction you want (up, down, around) as long as your center of gravity goes downwards during the punch. And the CoG doesn't have to move much, maybe an inch if you're good at it.
