I was hoping you would include something about swinging a mic stand around without giving your drummer a concussion.

Always been able to sing with nobody watching but when I'm on stage in front of people it's always an awkward experience. Hate having people look at me. I don't know what to do and sometimes I get shaky and it all messes with me.

i think smiling makes you look like you're happy to be there, if you're not using your microphone stand, it just looks like noise in the picture, and the arm thing... i'm glad i've always played instruments and i still do now that im getting into singing, or i would'n know what to do with them. thanks for the advice!

This is super helpful! I usually play guitar when I sing live so I don't have to worry about what to do with my hands, but recently I've been performing with a band type setup and I've felt so awkward and would do the weirdest things with my hands so I'll definitely work on this for the next performance I have haha :)

Excellent video. I am a major performer with several awards and I agree with everything Nichola said. (I don’t know if I spelled her name correctly) It is so important to put the microphone stand behind you if you are not using it and I will also add that what can lessen the nervousness that you ,igniting feel is to really know your ,arterial and what every song means to you so that you can fully engage the audience. I wish anyone coming into this business the very best. It is not easy but you must persevere if this is your goal. Vivian Reed

Interesting. 'Tricks' (of the trade), polish and technique notwithstanding, some of which is outlined here, summarised in a word stage presence is *theatre* . Critically important for solo vocalists who become the sole focus for the audience. So vocal presentation encompasses elements of acting, whether it's an extrovert inadvertently immersed caught up in the moment without inhibition (natural actor), or method trained to reveal and expose the fragile aspects of self without regard for a potentially embarrassed ego.

I've always believed that the reason people lack stage presence is simply to do with relating to the song, understanding the lyrics, knowing the lyrics and then sending that message to the crowd.Hands down Bono,Bruce Springsteen Dylan Janis, these artists really got there stories thru and more so live.

a few years ago before my fist performance as a singer with a band, someone told me to move my arms more. The subsequent video of me became forever known as "limp noodle arms". It was dreadful but I improved over time. I have had to face the fact that I am apparently "movement impaired". Nothing I do looks natural & everything I do looks awkward on stage to some degree so I don't try to look like a pro. There are many very famous singers who have a strange or odd stage presence so I have embraced my awkward moves and I love performing so much that I've learned to relax and be myself anyway.

Smile brightly before the song starts as a greeting to the audience, then get into the song with its emotions. Don't smile during the song, unless of course you're interacting with the audience, which is rare unless you have an instrumental break or you're in a group
