I would recommend praticing the throw by tossing it straight up! Not in a curve - although almost all pros toss the ball in a curve towards them, it is illegal to do so according to the ittf rules... the referees get a certain amount of freedom when judging the "straightness" of the toss, but IF you practice it, you may just practice it the right/legal way...

it is not illegal to toss in a curve if the curve is less than 30 degree. As you can see Dimitrij Ovtcharov always tossing in curve but the angel is always less than 30 degree. this is why judges do not take them as fault otherwise they would do very easy.

@@meys57 A beginner should always start with the correct way of tossing the ball. When they become a pro they can do whatever they want but it's best to start with good habits.

5 to 6. Enough for myself to move the bat. Too much grip will decrease the spin that you can do. Just the average grip that allows you to create more spin on the ball

Thakk you, interesting and useful. But I must observe than almost all the serves here look invalid to me, as the ball is not "thrown near vertically upwards" but evidently towards the server (watch in slow motion).

As long as ball is thrown sideways (not backward onto bat to generate more spin) so that there is 60 degrees or greater angle, it is considered legal.

Is it legal to toss the ball with a curve? The video is amazing though

Any advice on what to do with non racket arm during service? Generally it seems some people keep their arm bent and close to their body and others extend their arm and are pointing to other side. Pros cons of either? Or it does not matter?

Looks like your video on throwing up the ball is contrary to TT rules that say the ball should be thrown straight up not a couple of feet inward towards your body. ?????
