Finally...a guitar player who speak rhythm like drummer. I only wish every YT lesson described guitar strumming like this.

Thanks! No kidding, I wish drummer rhythm principles were just kind of universal to every instrument when it comes to counting.

Yea agreed it applies to every insturment...its called standard notation. When I hear instruction vids count that way...down down....I move on. And btw I really wanted to be a drummer....my parents said.....noooo

"Dooowwnn, down-up down-up doooowwwnnn...." clever intro and thoughtful lesson as always.
Man! This channel is GOLD for beginners-intermediates who want to push further and sound really neat/awesome. idk somehow i landed here from youtube recommendations, tried this video and some really intuitive stuff right there. When I myself started "improving" my acoustic strumming sound (realising how others sound so awesome), i made a few notes in my mind on what to do occasionally while playing. 1. Try to break 6 strings into parts while strumming i.e not necessary to play all of 'em. 2. Accenting (really great stuff told right there). 3. Skip some of the upstrokes OR down strokes in between the strums. This changes the strumming pattern continuously and playing doesn't sound monotonous/boring. 4. palm MUTING sometimes to sound warm. 5. Hitting the root note (or bass) in upstrokes/downstrokes for filling. 6. Playing some scale notes in between. 7. Legatos (pull off / hammer on) All these after a decent practice will make your playing sound awesome. These all were my observations as well (and ofc i never saw this video). Some great stuff in your lessons playlist as well ;) subbed! :)

Thanks so much! And such kind words from a white walker :)
My strumming improved just by watching this and playing along to it thanks so much man !!!
Really good sound advice. Many people including myself get caught up on questioning what is the sequence of UP and DOWNS is when learning to play a song. Taking it one step further and listening to the original recording and trying to determine the pattern sequence using the ONE AND TWO method takes this strategy to a whole new level.
I really appreciate this way of teaching strumming I remember I had a hard time learning guitar in the beginning and got really anxious about playing in general trying to do all the downs and ups perfectly as it said in whatever website. This is great advice!

Some of the best lessons on youtube. I've learned a ridiculous amount from you over quarantine. Thank you!
I had seen this lesson a long time back and applied it, and here I'm watching it again, and everything you've said has become much easier to do! Thank you !
Been playing guitar for 14 years but just recently started teaching guitar, this technique is something I've always done but this video helped me figure out how to teach this concept a little more clearly. Thanks!
you're surely a different level teacher, you made thing so simple that I could finally untangled my rhythm skills for several years, tbh, the other lesson on rhythm explaining about the right spot to target while strumming had actually opened my skills on dynamic, it has a huge impact over dynamic which I was struggling too, thanks a million, I hope to see you having over million subs real soon, good luck bruva xx
Thanks man this is exactly the video I needed. I always wondered about if it's important to exactly do a strumming pattern but I see now that it's more important to have timing and dynamic while being able to strum within the beat. All I see when I search strumming videos are "5 strumming patterns you need to know" or something. This video is the best thanks.
" Must have" techniques for both beginner or intermediate player. Excellent lesson - essential information explained succinctly. Thanks for sharing !!

So glad I found this. My guitar strumming is getting more consistent but sounds blaa. Up Down is easier to do but counting helps more in the long run. I try both ways but I'm concentrating more on counting. The dynamic accents is what I've been looking for. Ultimately it gives feeling to the song. This simple video helps a lot. Thanks

Picked up guitar during the past year - and strumming is way harder than I ever thought it could be. Thanks for taking the time to address strumming technique as methodically as you do. Very helpful video.
