See how using Fritz-Pak's Slick-Pak concrete pump primer will prevent a concrete pump blowout or other concrete pump failure.
As a concrete pump operator, you know how important it is to protect your equipment from expensive damage, but you may not be aware of the connection between improper priming and the need for concrete pump repair.
When concrete moves through the pump lines, the metal walls of the line can absorb moisture from the mix - drying out the mix. Dry concrete is harder to move and can increase the pressure in your pump line or even plug the line completely.
Using a concrete pump primer is the easiest way to prevent this from happening, but not all pump priming materials are made the same. Many people think that using plain water will provide sufficient protection, but this simply isn’t the case.
Water lacks the viscosity needed to coat the inside of the pipe. Only Slick-Pak has been specially formulated to create a highly viscous priming material that will coat all around your pumping lines and allow the concrete to slide through easily. Not only does this prevent plugs in the pipe, but it can also reduce the pressure in the lines.
This video provides a visual representation of priming your concrete pump with water and Fritz-Pak Slick-Pak. You’ll be able to see the significant difference between the two priming materials and hopefully gain a better understanding of why choosing the right primer for your next concrete pumping job is so important.
For more information on how Fritz-Pak’s concrete admixture can improve your concrete mix design while helping you pass the inspection by the concrete quality control inspector, visit us online at fritzpak.com/.

Been pumping for 30 years and I hadn't used slick pac in a long time and somebody had gave me some and I applied a small amount into a into a 5 gallon bucket mixed it in the hopper with some concrete and I've never plugged up so much in my life. I realized I might not have had the right ratio of water to slick pack but it was definitely slimy and it separated and set up the concrete immediately.

I bought a case of this stuff and only use it on certain ready mix companies mix designs when pumping with my boom. Good stuff but I still prefer a mixture water & bentonite when priming out my line pump, not sure why but it seems to not work as well or maybe I’m just not coating my lines out properly when priming 200’+ of rubber hose system.

Thanks for the comment. It could also be that you're not using the right Slick-Pak product. For bigger jobs or longer hoses, we recommend Slick-Pak II, which is formulated for higher viscosity.

Bentonite and slurries can be moderately effective, but there is the added cost of materials and space in your truck. Slick-Pak can help you save money on materials & is easily used on the job site thanks to the our water-soluble bags. If you would like a no-obligation free sample to compare our Slick-Pak against Slick-Willy, you can request that through our website: fritzpak.com/request-product-samples/

Slick-Pak has no negative impact on the quality or strength of concrete. It simply improves pumpability without changing the water-cement ratio. So your concrete should be fine regardless of the application.

How much concrete can you pump before losing the slick pack lubrication?

Thanks for reaching out. Once you have primed the pump & started pumping, you can continuously pump as much concrete as you need. If you have to stop pumping for more than 20 minutes, you will then need to reprime the pump with another bag of slick-Pak before you start pumping again.

@@rcppop3090 It never worked for me line pumping, 2.5 inch rubber, would plug almost instantly in the first 50 ft. Water always worked up to 250ft. Works really good with my boom though. Must be the metal pipes, not sure.
