How to improve the jig I use to crosscut at 45 degrees
After making a table saw jig to make 45 degrees crosscuts, in this woodworking video I make some changes so I get more height of cut. After some simple changes I have improved this 45 degrees crosscuts jig. It will be very useful in my woodworking shop, because I cannot tilt the saw disc in my homemade table saw. So if you are searching for how to cut miter joints with circular saw, in my woodworking shop this is a good way. And I could also make similar jigs to cut angles in my table saw. This is one of those woodworking ideas that are quite easy to make. Almost as easy to make as a table saw sled.

I agree. You learn so much when you see the whole trial and error process. Thank you.
Sergio - great videos. You are not afraid of showing the problems and solutions you came up with. Both videos are very valuable. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Seems like the improvements are good. Now I want to build this jig too!
Well done!!!
You are a highly skilled craftsman! Thank you for sharing the entire process as you worked through this excellent procedure! Great Job, Well Done!
I' m very fond of your work and videos, thanks a lot for sharing.
Nice job!!
Great working jig, thanks for sharing
Very useful jig. Will be using your design to make one tomorrow.
Hi Sergio, well done on your update. That is what I meant, when I commented on the original video, but I obviously didn't describe myself very well. Nevertheless, you figured it out & it is a massive improvement. Congratulations. Glyn (England)

I'll make this...thank you, sir!
Great work! I will make one.
TY for post this, I'm making a homemade table saw using a skill saw and was wondering how I could cut 45 degree angles. Much appreciation. :D
thank you for sharing this vid very helpfull
Sergio, I love the way you think things through, even if it means modifying the jig afterwards. Watching other videos for building a “Donkey Ear” jig for cutting 45 degree miters, I believe that the wood thickness used for the bottom of the jig and the top dictate the thickness of the material you can cut without too much waste. I think the answer is to not use a miter bar for the jig. Instead, use the table saw fence to slide the jig back and forth during cutting. This way, you can set the jig to cut 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, etc thick material by moving the fence in or out. Place that the material you going to cut on top of the jig, then move the fence in until the bottom edge of the material you’re cutting rests on the outer edge of the saw blade insert. This should eliminate a lot of waste and give you precise repetitive cuts once the fence is locked in. Also, horizontal toggle hold down clamps might be easier to install and use for securing the wood during cutting. Please let me know what you think of my suggestion.

I think the thickness of the material I can cut depends on the height of the cutting blade. And because I always cut in the end of the boards, I never have too much waste. So, I am not sure I understand what you mean

Oh so that is why many other Donkey Ear jigs use fence based instead of miter slot. Thanks.
well done.
Well done
I just watched your first video. And thought of how to adjust it. Long story short we thought of the same solution. Great minds think alike I guess!
I made one (with lousy scraps) and its AWESOME ! TY

Great jig, tx for sharing. What wood type you are using for the base?
i remember the first making of this jig. please don't be angry with me fore the first time seemed very ok to me and it served its purpose then too. so what happened since then?

At USA, this year, at 2 months, I buy 2 Swanson Speed Square, 1 metal and 1 plastic, none of them are real 45º. I use Plastic, Architect Square when I need real precision

Wondering if your saw blade can be tilted to 45°
Man I have tried to build this for a week just can’t seem to get a true 45, everything seems to be right then I cut two boards and they are off again, I’m going to try one more time

Interesting: did your rebuild succeed? If so , what did you do differently?

James Polucha I decided to go to a 45 degree crosscut sled for the table saw. Yes I have to set the blade to 45 but I batched my cuts. The results were fine.
