We had an almost identical system installed last autumn! No more giant puddles standing about the front of our home.

In Florida we can get 2-4. inches of rain dropped on us…and in a very short time it’s gone. All,the “soil” is sand. In the meantime, it’s so humid you feel like you’re walking through a curtain of warm water!
Corrugated pipes are fine, actually even better than PVC, which tends to clog more. The corrugations allows for turbulent flow and acts as sort of a self-cleaning action. Whoever told you that you can't clean it out with normal equipment was trying to sell you something. Apple Drains here on youtube shows you can do it just fine. Just don't use any crazy cutter heads. The corkscrew/grabber head that's usually on there stock works best. I'm guessing they didn't have a sewer jetter because that also works fine too. Farmers and other Ag uses corrugated all the time because underground it is actually strong as heck and since it doesn't need as many fittings as PVC, you can totally avoid root intrusion if you have one continuous line. There's a reason they often use corrugated piping for road culverts instead of straight pipe.

In our 44th year, that isn't our experience. Our videos are all based on our direct experience and we try to present it simply and factually. But if you've found a different system that works for your yard, then that's all that matters! 👍
California is a state that experiences prolonged periods of drought followed by flash flooding. Is there a reason for promoting dumping downspout water in the street instead of collecting, storing, and utilizing during the dry seasons? When Californians are well known to have water shortages and high water bills, it seems almost foolish to simply waste the water that does fall on a property.

Yes, water storage and re-use of the water makes sense. In the absence of such provisions it is necessary to maintain the integrity of buildings and avoid destructive flooding. Such is the case in the home featured in the video which has a basement subject to flooding. -John
