How to Illustrate and Write a Children’s Book : Part 5 - Finalizing Text and Finish Illustrating

Have you ever wanted to write and illustrate a children’s book? Me too. Come along and learn with me as I go through the process of illustrating and writing my first children’s book.
In Step 5 you will finalize text and finish illustrating your book. Listen as I play the feedback I received from my target audience. This part was so helpful for me! I really want to create a book that they want to read, and they told me a few ways to make it better.
Here was the feedback they gave (they were ages 3-10)
- instead of writing "he WAS a bad dog" write "he IS a bad dog"
- include more words about the dog
- make the words rhyme its more fun to read
- maybe include word bubbles for what the dog is thinking
I was surprised that they sat and listened to the stories even when the pictures were very sketchy and sloppy. It was proof of concept for me. I hope you had some good feedback for your book. You could always read it and share it on youtube or instagram for more feedback. I would just make sure that who you are getting feedback from is actually someone who would read the book.
This next step is a long one. Please let me know in the comments if there is anything I can help you with in this process. See you in three weeks for the last step, laying out the book and printing options.
Homework
Finish writing and illustrating your book.
Scan the images so you have digital copies of them to place in the book, and/or edit.
