How To: ILLEGAL VIDEO! Aladdin Blue Flame heater wick change!

OMG! It's a video without a gas pressured appliance! Maybe so, but these heaters are just too cool to pass up. I came across one at an antiques show, and I just had to have it. Come along and see how it come apart, learn what may trip you up and gain the knowledge to change the wick yourself and bring this fantastic heater back to life!

We got these in the UK also, plus many more, I have a Valour, paid £10.00 for it, but due to the higher cost of gas and eletric it seems that these are in high demand and the prices have gone up. The one in your video is a very popular pariffin heater here in the UK, average cost is about £50-£100 on ebay. I love my heater, I pay about £6.00 for the pariffin and that keeps my room warm for about 7 days, if I cut back abit I can make it last 10 days

It's a pretty neat heater. One thing that you definitely need to have is the wick cleaner, which can be found on eBay pretty easy. I probably should have taken more time to clean out the fount, but what can I say...i'm not as patient as I should be! So now my wick has a fair bit of carbon sticking off of it. Wick cleaner will fix that though. It should settle down after running for a while.

Very well made units mine is a S681U Equator II. Easy to change wick just rotate Counter-clockwise until tab up from latch then pull knob out to release wick holder collapse wick inwardly from pins reverse with new wick. It took me 2 tries to adjust wick height corectly 3/8inch exposed when fully to right knob

I scored a pair of these heaters last summer, and one is in use right now. I like them because they don't care about dyed kerosene. Fiberglass wicked heaters clog-up pretty quickly with the dyed stuff. I also use Perfection heaters ( including one from 1895 ).

Nice. My wick cleaner is coming in the mail today, so that should solve the flame spike issue I'm seeing. I need to get the smaller one I picked up rehabbed also. They're really pretty neat!

Thanks to you and this video I am now the proud owner of a series 15 Aladdin Blue Flame Heater! It is sitting here keeping my office warm and toasty. I did strip the paint off of the fount and polished the brass along with re-painting the frame. The two things that made all the difference was heat and Denatured Alcohol. The wick was stuck horribly, and the fount was full of this gelatinous yellow stuff that looked and smelled like something out of the movie Alien. I just poured some DA on the wick and lit it, like when you pre-heat the generator on a lantern, that and some feeler gauges worked very well. I do have two issues I would appreciate your input on. The view window for the fuel gauge is translucent and cloudy, like an oxidized headlamp on a vehicle. What is the best practice for addressing this? I don't see a method for removing it, perhaps it's soldered on? Also, the ring or frame around the mica (H.206/P151604) is warped and I wish to replace it. Where would I find one? Thank you again for an outstanding presentation.

Hey that's great to hear, Kenneth! DA is just magic on old Kerosene. For the window, I found that running mine ended up clearing it up. It was real hazy, but the longer it ran, the clearer it got. I do know there are replacement windows available, so there's got to be a way to replace them. If you can get the ring off, you can probably bend it back into shape pretty easy, they aren't that thick. Milesstair.com does have the windows; I googled for "aladdin heater mica window" and got a lot of hits. I also know that with the Coleman mica globes, an overnight dunk in Evaporust clears them right up, but that will probably also take the paint off if you try that trick on the aladdin.
