How to identify the trend

For free trading education, go to www.tradingwithrayner.com
You know an uptrend consists of higher highs and higher lows.
But when you attempt to define the trend with this approach, you often face subjectivity in identifying the trend.
So...
Is there a way to define a trend more objectively?
Yes and I'll teach you how to do it in a step by step manner.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s video post. As always, comments are welcomed and encouraged. Cheers!
Thanks for watching!

    Very simple. Please imagine wall clock or compass in mind and draw North, south, East and west., then see M.A. if M.A pointing vertically higher toward in between north & east, then consider M.A pointing 2 o clock.

    Hey Rayner! I like your videos a lot. What do you suggest: How many periods should I take to determine of the trend and slope is up? Like 3 periods pointing at 2 o'clock or higher enough?

  • @econ8134

    @econ8134

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the quick reply! But what i meant is, using a 200 MA, how many periods of an 2 o'clock up slope + PA above this 200 MA do you wait do confirm this bullishness? Of course you have a set of signal for long trades not only MA. Still: The angle of the 200 MA needs to be good. But for how many periods? Is 3 consecutive periods enough (very start of good angle) or do you wait until the slope of 200 MA has shaped for at least 50 periods a good angle? Would like to know that.

    actually telling whether the trend is strong just by looking at its slope is also very subjective....i think a more better way to put it is to determine whether a trend is strong by looking at how the price is respecting it (like if price is respecting 20ma, then it is very strong and if the price is respecting the 50ma, then it is moderately strong)

    I like very much your videos, but there's one thing that i wanna point out about this video: "If MA is pointing 2 o'clock and higher..." The thing is that visible charts are defined by specific time frame, and the slope is affected by aspect ratio of the chart. And that leaves the possibility for different results if the time frame varies. Better way saying this would be for example: "Uptrend is strong if MA is trending up 1.23 %/day on average"
