The tips are great! but a side note on the dovetail joint, it is not the only strong wood joint, mortise and tenon, dowels, screws, and all of it combined with wood glue are actually very strong joints. Dovetail is difficult to make and one of the most beautiful but it is not the only strong butt joint.

Joints that are properly glued are more durable than you lead people to believe in the video. Quality wood glue is rated at 3,600 PSI so the wood would break before the glued joint, even with a high quality hardwood. I'm not saying a good dovetail joint that is glued is not a superior joint, but a glued joint is still very strong and durable. Also very high quality joints are mortise and tenon joints, and dowels also make for some very strong joints. Dovetail are great on drawers as the locking joints put the stress on the wood by the shape of the join instead of a screw or simple glue joint with a brad nail. There are also pocket hole screwed joints that are fairly strong, but less so than those mentioned above. If you are buying furniture with a veneer, ask how thick and durable the veneer is and check into the warranty. Similar to laminate flooring, the pretty veneer layer looks good, but once you wear through that pretty layer, the wood underneath is usually unsightly. I build some furniture on a small scale and the furniture I see in the video appears to be very high quality and I do not mean to imply anything different. Many people ask (and their is a video at the end of the one above) talking about why wood furniture is so expensive. That's not a 100% accurate title. It should be "Why QUALITY wood furniture is so expensive" or "Why Quality Wood furniture is more expensive than the interlocking pins and particle board and cardboard backing junk sold at mass markets". The particle board substrates are very weak. I've bought a few of these over the years and the first thing I'd ever doo after putting the piece together was to cut triangles and screw into the corners on the back to add stability. They are designed to hold minimal weight and if you move to a new house, these often do not survive the packing and unpacking process and if you put them into storage without some form of climate control, they degrade quickly. Where quality hardwood furniture can easily last decades. For example my parents bought my brother and me waterbeds in 1981. Pieces have been left behind and my wife did not like the waterbed frame so we sold it to a couple, but I still have the dresser with the original finish. The wood is not a hardwood and it is still in really good shape. It has a few dents and dings that would be much less evident if it were created out of a hardwood, but even the softwood (pine wood) is in great shape nearly 40 years later. This piece has survived through probably 7-8 moves over my life and the joints are still extremely tight and have absolutely no slop or wiggle. I also still have the mirror from the bedroom set and it is in perfect condition. If my inexpensive pine dresser and mirror are in that good of shape after 4 decades, how long do you think a quality hardwood set would last? Properly crafted wood furniture is something you can pass down to your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you get a table top made out of a gorgeous hardwood like Black American Walnut, you can change the table base as styles change, but well made table tops last generations. My brother still uses the table my grandparents bought approximately 90-100 years ago. So keep that longevity in mind when you wonder why quality wood furniture cost so much more than the cheap crap you see at the big box stores. There is a reason it is built so cheaply - it is not built to last, it is built to last a few years and break, then be replaced, and replaced a few years later. You'll end up saving money buying quality furniture and have a quality piece, even though it is a fair amount of money to put out at once, it saves you in the long run. This goes back to "You get what you pay for", although there are still many high quality pieces custom made by wood workers that may be more cost effective, and can be built to match the exact size specifications you need.
