I did some further studies on this plant last season only to find out it is also incredibly good to make fertilizer(for the garden with)as well as a topical fungal spray!! ALSO, fungal issues with feet for us!! So using it as a soak when having issues with things like athletes foot! Such an awesome plant!

Along with comfrey you would have an amazing fertilizer combination!! I wasn't aware it had such strong anti-fungal properties. I'd never thought to use it that way. Thank you for sharing.

Amazing video with so much information! Exactly what I was looking for!! I'm in zone 6a. I had been wondering if my horsetail was past its optimal harvest time, and it mostly is. I have a ton along the riverbank and perhaps I can find some younger ones in there! Can I make a hair rinse with water too ( like a strong tea)? I'm going to be checking out your video on the ACV rinse! I do note that horse tail, along with nettle, are both green of course, and amazing hair benefits, but wondering if it would cause blonde or highlighted hair to take on a green hue?? As always Correne, my sincere gratitude for your amazing ( and timely) videos and teachings!! 🙏🌿💞

If you are in 6a it is likely past prime as I am zone 4 (ish), but for making vinegars and such, it is likely still fine. You can make a tea as well, but you would have to freeze it as the shelf life would only be a week or so in the fridge. The vinegar helps to preserve it. I've never used it on chemically dyed hair so unfortunately I have no comment! Sorry. My only suggestion would be to try it on a small area and see what happens or conduct some further research. Good luck!

infuse dried horsetail in oil, and use the oil as a hair oil.

Curious about topical use as toothpaste or nail repair?

Yes I have seen people use horsetail powder in homemade toothpaste! I haven't done it myself, but I know it can be done. Nail repair... not sure how you would do that. As a clinical practitioner I always look at vitamin deficiency in my clients as opposed to topical treatments.

@@SpiraeaHerbs Thank you, I think I might try the toothpaste idea and maybe an infused oil for nails? Like you, I think addressing nutrition is always the first step before topicals but it is fun to experiment!!
