My beagle was a rescue from the animal control in our county, and I always assumed she was a mix breed. I later did a dna study which showed she was 100% beagle. She was a stray and turned out to be a fantastic companion.

Even tho I don't have a beagle, my neighbours have one! I'm her favorite person! Her name is Olive and she is suuuuper energetic and jumps on me when I'm around!

I am more than happy that my beagle is not 100%. He is 87.8% beagle and 12.2% GSD. But he is 100% the most loveable dog out there. He was rescued from a backyard breeder by a beagle rescue group and he had parvo. They paid for his parvo treatment and we fostered him while he had parvo. We eventually adopted him because how could we not? I'm so thankful for my sweet, angelic beagle. Even though he's not 100% beagle, he is the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever had.

I know my beagle is pure, coz he's so mischievous. 😂 He destroys everything. He howls, bark at everything. But the most identifiable is ... He's cute, adorable, and so sweet. 🥰

We had a beagle basset mix and he literally looked like half and half. He had shorter legs and a longer body and longer ears, but otherwise just looked like a large beagle. It was such a cool mix.

dog doesnt need a purebred label, they need love

Beagles think other dogs are okay, but other beagles are great. They love to play with other beagles and beagle mix. In our beagleclub we have about 100 beagle members, and every two weeks a playdate (not at the moment, due to Covid-19) and it great to see them run and play, old or puppy, they really like it.

We had someone near us just let their beagle go because they didn’t want him anymore. He found his way to our house, walked in the front door, made friends with our current dog and now has a new home. He is awesome

Well you should. Beagles blood should never have to suffer the degradation of having to blend with the filthy sub canine blood of the filthy basset. You may not care, but he will never truly be accepted by the beagle community. This is why bassets and beagles must be segregated. And what kind of pups will your illegitimate 'beagle' produce, huh? The kind that lay in bed all day and expect to be fed? The kind that are unnaturally aggressive towards other, hardworking breeds? The kind that piss against statues of people that paved the way for them to have a nation???!!!!! Look, beagles are beagles...bassets are bassets. Pick a side, huh?

Two beagles are the key to there happiness and never bored. I have two brothers that are now 7 months young. Got them at 9 weeks of age. Thatcher is my daughters and Duke is mine. Thatcher is copper and white with green eyes and my Duke is typical tri colored. Trained them to sleep in their kennels from the day we brought them home and have slept all night every night since we got them. They are pack animals, hence the reason I got two of them. They never wined or barked at night at all because they have each other. We love them dearly. Awesome smart yet stubbon dogs, they make conscious choices. Consistency in traing goes a long way. Good nutrition in their food makes a big difference as well.

Purebred beagles do not ALWAYS have a white strip on their head. My beagle was the only one with a small white strip on his head his siblings didn't and all are AKC registered beagles.

Great video - only point I'd like to add is not ALL purebred Beagles have the white streak on the head: One of my Beagle's littermates has just a speck of white around his nose, but not the classical white streak up between the eyes. And still, he's a pedigree Beagle from a professional breeder. Best dog breed ever for sure, we'll always have Beagles now that we've had one for 8 months now. Thanks for your work!

I have a Blue Tick colored beagle! I rescued her but supposedly it’s a very rare coloration. And she has all these traits except her paws are all brown and the tip of her tail is a cow print color, not pure white! I’m definitely curious now though and I want to DNA test her! Every vet I’ve brought her too has said she looks purebred. She’s absolutely beautiful regardless of her DNA though. 🥰

Does she have a double coat? I've noticed most mixed beagles lack a double coat. I have a purebred bluetick beagle, he's not papered because I got him for $100 from a hunting dog owner who's beagle pair (they were papered, puppies weren't because they weren't planned) had puppies. Two of the nine (!) puppies had the blue ticking, so it's definitely possible in a purebred!

I have a papered Blue Tick Beagle and she has colored paws but a "blue" tail. Its mostly very light colored but as all of the white color is blue the tail and paws are a little off.

I have an AKC registered blue tick. I purchased from breeder. Parents were on sight and also AKC registered which I was able to document. His is belly, chest, tip of tail and paws all have the blue tick pattern where it would be white on a typical beagle.

I am a dog lover and I dont care about breeds I just love to love them buy yeah I tested this and my Amy is a pure breed thanks

This is great information. I have a beagle mix that if you didn't know that his tails supposed to stand up all the time you would think he was purebred with how he is.

My daughter rescued a “beagle” 3 weeks ago. He was horribly emaciated and in tremendous pain. The vet says he has a genetic disorder that causes bone growth on the shaft of the bone as well as the ends. With good loving, medications and food he is doing so much better. He’s about a year old and the vet is hopeful he may not continue to grow bone when he reaches his full size. His tail is stubby and doesn’t have white on the top but does have all the other characteristics. So I guess he’s not purebred. I think he’ll make my daughter an exceptional support animal.

I have bought lots of outside and inside toys for my two beagle brother puppies and they haven't chewed one single thing in my house at all. Nothing. My wife says , you got them another chew toy and I say yep, its cheaper then replacing your shoes or the furniture. Ha. I used to leave their toys laying out at night and they stopped playing with them. Then it hit me. There bored wit the same toys everyday. So I started putting their toys in a plastic Tupperware every night. So now, every day is like Christmas to them, they both get so excited when I take the lid off and lay it on its side. They climb in and act like they've never sen them before. Everyday. Its so cute. Also has taught them who the pack leader is and who is in control of the toys. Has made a huge difference.

We have 3 beagles - and there is no doubt they are pure bred. I know people say "this and that" about their particular dog/breed/companion, but there is NOTHING like a beagle. They are too smart for their own good. Little mess pots! They get into (and out of) everything. We joke because they literally are like the raptors on Jurassic Park. They learn and figure things out very quickly, can smell or hear things miles away, And are hands down the LOUDEST dogs I've ever known. But I've never seen any breed more affectionate, more loving, more attention-starved than our beagles. They are such cuties! And if we had more land, we'd probably have at least a couple more. They are our babies, for sure!

First time dog owner, Have a tri blue beagle puppy for a week now, he can be the sweetest puppy ever or the freshest depending on his mood. He extremely stubborn, taken two pairs of my slippers and if i wear flip flops he bites them and my toes. Still hes so freakin cute i cant get mad at him.

My beagle puppy is so intelligent that he is only 45 days old and he have learnt my some commands like sit down, shake hand, lay down, come here.

Quality of love matters

My beagle baby is definitely all beagle. She's a lemon beagle too, I named her Harley. She has me wrapped around her paw lol.

They can bark or howl out of excitement too.. or to get your attention.. they are cheeky.

They are definitely still used for hunting:) we got ours from a family member who raise them for hunting. And he has a white tip on his tail:)

This video isn't completely accurate. Having a white stripe in their head may be a desired look but not an indicator of being purebred.

Nearly everything also applies to harriers which is a purebreed older than beagles but slightly larger. I am guessing as harriers are still quite rare most owners would t come across them.

Mine is 3/4 beagle, 1/4 territor. Everything is spot on with her, though her ears are shorter than purebred. Still cute and floppy.

I used to have a Treeing Walker Coonhound. They look like giant beagles. One day my sister was walking our coonhound and she encountered a stranger with a beagle puppy also on a walk. My sister being the trouble maker she was pointed to our dog and muttered the line "This is a Beagle" and walked away. The poor beagle owner had a look of horror on their face that read "OMG, I didn't think beagles got that BIG." That poor beagle owner.

The Coonhound is derived from the old Kerry beagle which was brought to North America by Irish settlers... They're typically bigger than US beagles, average 22/24"

I’ve got a pure breed Beagle that is the Blue Ticked fur color pattern and when he was a puppy he had that white streak on his head but it almost completely disappeared as he aged, he’s about to be 2 years old in a few weeks

I thought their was only one type of beagle but after looking at pics of beagle pups I've noticed 2 distinct differences in beagles. One type has a sloping forehead with a more boxy face and muzzles, shorter bodies and slightly smaller feet. The other type has a more slender face and nose, and a domed round knobby head, usually a little longer body and bigger feet. I haven't researched this it's just an observation as I've noticed differences that nobody really talks about.

The boxy ones are “show line” and the slender faces ones are “field line”. So show line is bred to meet the physical beagle standard where field line beagles are bred for their hunting abilities:)

My brother found our beagle wandering around his neighborhood after he was abandoned. There is no doubt that he is a pure bred. He has all the characteristics of a beagle. On a side note, could you do a video about the most common health issues in beagles? Three of our beagles, including the one we have now were prone to developing benign cysts. Our present beagle, Charlie, had one on his chest that had to be removed surgically and is having another one removed today from his right hip just to the right of his tail.

My oldest beagle, Allie, is 11 years old. She was diagnosed with TCC Bladder Cancer in November 2019. She is 95% beagle, 5% cocker spaniel. I agree, there should be more discussion about health issues in dogs.

Most common health condition is some cherry red eye disease. Other than that, because beagles as a dog breed are so old, diseases have essentially been bred out of them.

They're prone to ear infections, intervertebral disc disease, obesity, allergies and hip dysplasia. Really make sure to measure out their food at feeding time because while most dogs always seem to be hungry beagles do not seem to ever feel full. It's really easy over feed them. My first beagle had some of these issues a few of them might have stemmed from being the runt of her litter. The ear infections didn't happen very often but they were simple to treat. Allergies were a bit tougher but our vet told us to use half of a benadryl it helped with the itching and sneezing she'd get. I think her allergy issues were triggered by some grasses and pollen. She also issues with her spine but we put her on rest as advised by our vet and the swelling in her discs went down. She was otherwise a very loving and energetic dog. My current beagle on the other hand, we haven't run into issues with him yet. He's got more energy than I know what to do with at times and he's a real trouble maker. Monster and Daisy are polar opposites in a lot ways I guess.

Same as any other dog. You must be very observant and consistent with getting them outside before they pee or poo inside as much as possible. With lots of happy praise when they do what you want them to. I just got 2 beagle puppies that are brothers at 9 weeks of age and are now 7 months and maybe had 4 pee pee accidents total between both of them when I first got them and that was it. They have a specific pee and poop spot in my fenced in back yard. Consistency is key with one word commands and be consistent with praise and it will be a smooth ride for you and the pup.

I have a Mixed Beagle but has all the characteristics

Well my beagle is pure champion bred and my Roscoe has a double knot in his tail and is all brown except for a few spots of white.

My neighbour's beagle that regularly comes to my house to play with cats fulfill all these purebred characteristics, yet he's way bigger and wider than an average beagle and doesn't really have any black fur on his body.

Yup! I have a lemon beagle. He is a lil bigger than the average beagle. Definitely 100% purebred. His sisters came out tri coloured and 13 inch, but he is a big boi!

I must have a special beagle, Ive heard over and over the white "flag" on the tail is a clear indicator of pure breeds, and since I got her from a shelter I always assumed she might be a little mixed since her tail has no white at all. Well after a DNA test from embark they said shes 100% pure beagle. So I guess there are cases without the white tail as well.
