I am extremely curious. 1).Why go through all that hassle when you do have a backyard? 2).Why use a pee pad under the artificial turf when you do have a catch tray? 3).How often do you do this routine and how long does the process take? 4).What are the benefits of going through all this vs. just letting your pet use the backyard, scoop the waste… and maybe hose off the grass area when the waste cant be completely picked up, and save money on additional pee pads and time overall? Thanks for sharing!

Very good question. We use the pee pad and not the yard for a few reasons. Where I live we have birds of prey that have taken dogs her size, so we only let her run in the back yard when we’re with her. 2. We have all white carpet & furniture inside the house and this keeps her paws clean and our furniture and floors. 3. Cleaning the pad like that doesn’t take very long, changing the pads underneath is extremely fast. 4. For us it is worth the hassle. I do walk her most days if it’s warm enough outside, and we have wipes for her paws that are dog safe. It may sound like a lot of work but we don’t mind. I have a new puppy, and want to train him on a grass pee pad until he is fully vaccinated, I am in a townhouse and there are a bunch of dogs in our open area and I don't want to expose him to any diseased dog droppings, what pee pad do you use? And did you order a second grass mat? I love your set up! Thanks in advance!!

Hi, thanks for the comment and kind words! I did buy 2 grass pads just so while one is dirty I have a clean one ready to go. I use throwaway pads underneath the grass pad and I have posted links below in the description of the products I use related to this set up. I change the pad underneath every 3 days or so. I wash the artificial grass pad about every 2 to 3 weeks in the summer, and about every 1 to 2 months in winter. Thanks for the question
