    Off the top of my head I really can’t remember. My feint memory is saying that they’re not the same size. Can’t be sure though. I’m sure the maintenance manual would shed some light on it. Easily found online if you don’t have one. Cheers

    I stand corrected. There’s a strainer inside the crankcase. AND I forgot there’s an in-line strainer in the oil down tube which needs cleaning every oil change. I changed my oil roughly every 1000 miles. Don’t quite know how I missed the strainers in the workshop manual. If I ever get another I’ll know what to do!

    Your checking the oil level wrong. You have the bike running and when you turn it off check it don't wipe the oil off the stick. If you dip the stick into the frame to check it you will end up adding way to much oil.

  • @RideyBikes

    @RideyBikes

    9 жыл бұрын

    Alistair Mcgown Hey, i'm not quite sure I follow what you are trying to say. Are you suggesting that the level of the oil on the stick (immediately after engine shut off) is the level by which we should all measure? If I dip the stick into the frame after wiping (with a cold engine), I would expect to see an oil level near the minimum. If I dip the stick into the frame after wiping (with a warm engine), I would expect to see the oil level around half way up the dipstick. Needless to say, if the bike is hot i'd expect it to be higher... The engine pumps the oil up to the top of the frame so if the engine has run the dipstick will have oil very high up on it. This is why I wipe the excess off of the dipstick. To see the true level of the oil. Equally if i've run the engine and then removed the dipstick to find that there is no oil high up on the dipstick, i'd worry the oil pump is not working. Although i've never had that happen. Thanks for watching

    You are wrong, I have the manual infront of me right now and the only thing he did wrong is screwing it in again, you should only let it rest on the threads to check the oil level.

  • @RideyBikes

    @RideyBikes

    8 жыл бұрын

    Actually, I was not wrong to screw it back in. When I screw the dipstick back in it is for the purpose of starting the bike so that the oil can circulate through the frame and engine to give me a true level. If you watch the video right to the end you'll see that when I do the final oil level check, I remove the dipstick (after running the engine), wipe the dipstick clean, place it on the threads (not screw it in), then remove to check the level. Cheers
