    You guys are wonderful. I get a double hit of nostalgia: (1) an 80s UK Christmas and (2) confirmation that we really did go through the collective experience of 2019. These uploads will never get old. I'd love chronological or series/season folders of TnT. I'm sure there are some episodes I haven't been able to find.

    Snacks we had, in our American home, were the mixed nuts in the Santa boot I made in 2nd grade; Fruit cake which was made with candied citrus fruit and pecans; Brach's candies from the bulk pick-n-mix bins; a 16 oz box of Sees chocolates, and home made egg nog made with milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

  • @DrRobert1138

    @DrRobert1138

    3 жыл бұрын

    Dame Edna did feature quite prominently in the ITV trailer, as did Cilla Black. Dame Edna was a permanent fixture of Xmas TV in the 80s, usually with her own chat show, assisted by Madge (not Madonna, a different Madge). She would always insult her celebrity guests, but that was a big part of why they went on, they loved being teased by her. Dame Edna Everage was very much a Christmas institution, like Cilla on Blind Date or Surprise Surprise, or Dennis Norden on It'll Be Alright On The Night.

    🎅🎄⛄ Merry Christmas, Guys!!! ⛄🎄🎅 I already have my Babycham, which I drink with Xmas lunch (didn't realise it's 6% though 🥴). We have Buck's Fizz (the drink not the band) in the morning, while opening presents. Another 80s Christmas essential we have is Black Forest Gateau. I have fond memories of taking the last of the gateau to bed and watching films I had taped off the TV over Christmas on the boxy 14 inch TV and video in my bedroom. Watching Star Wars, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles in bed at 2am during the school holidays in a dressing gown, propped against the foot of my bed. Bliss. The videos usually came complete with ident cards, showing a poster of the film and the channel's logo (HTV Wales for me), with the slight jump where I paused the video to cut out the adverts. Clever at the time, but those adverts are fascinating now. Keep up the good work, lads!

    About 8 minutes in, you're right about all this so far, but my parents didn't really like advocaat, so none of that, just beer, wine and Bailey's. My Dad also got whiskey at Christmas sometimes, but wouldn't drink it any other time of year. And oh yes, Babycham and Cherry B. Only at Christmas. Same with the biscuits. We usually got those Dutch ones though, that came in a tin with a picture of a castle on it. And going to be a pedant here, I don't think there are any Norwegian discount grocery chains in the UK. Aldi and Lidl are both German and Netto is Danish. Watched the rest. What about selection boxes? You never mentioned those. Right about Quality Street - it was either Quality Street or a big tub of Cadbury's Roses, but usually Quality Street. Also, along with Matchmakers, we also got those Terry's Biarritz things and Ferrero Rocher. (I remember those, because the sexy lady on the advert brings it up to her mouth and whispers "Rocher!" but my Nan always said it looked like she was saying "Oh s**t!"

    Yes, the cheesy footballs were definitely a staple of Christmas. I had a football game one year, it was called something like Cup Final, it was similar to subutteo, but the outfield players had buttons with a spring-loaded foot to kick the ball. I remember using a cheesy football instead of the plastic football. I'm sure I thought this was hilarious at the time 😂
