I will do my wedding for 1000 usd or maybe 1509 usd and only invite maximum 70 guest Edit-i am 18 now so not planning now , will do atleast 7-8 years later

My niece was married in a public park near an AirBnB where almost all of the out of town guests stayed, purposely located in the town of the groom's elders who could not travel. They used the parks outdoor teaching area for the service, white ribbon was the only decor. They all walked to the house and had a big cookout at the house. The AirBnB owner had they yard set up with lights/tables that were borrowed. They purchased their rings used, there is a large wedding ring secondary market, hers was customized a bit for $25.

These are some really great tips.😃 My fiancé and I are on a tight budget bc we don't want to go broke over our beach wedding since we have business ventures that we are investing in before, during and after the wedding. I believe when ppl are in love, the wedding really is for the family and friends to join in on the event and for the married couple's memories. I, honestly, would elope with the love of my life if I didn't have our wonderful family and friends to consider. They wouldn't be very happy.😅😅

There are some creative ideas here for alternatives to the "typical" way of doing things for a wedding, and that is where the money is saved. I think the message is: you don't have to do the expensive thing. Wedding receptions are expensive, you don't have to have one. However if your dad paid to have your dress finished and fitted, that was still an expense, even if you didn't pay it directly. But that logic my dress was also free because my mom bought it. (It was a sample sale dress and alterations were minimal, but it didn't cost me $0, it cost someone else $250 plus $125 in alterations)

Amazing!! My husband and I have been together for 12 years, almost 13 but we’re not legally married lol we’ve been wanting to get married for a long time now and money has always been an issue for us to do so. We are 2 people who don’t need a lot to be happy and we only want a very basic, yet beautiful and magical wedding. I have a friend willing to do the photography for us, my brother in law has a large (I mean VERY LARGE) Bluetooth speaker and said if we make a playlist he’ll be happy to be our “DJ” lol my sister is super crafty and said she’d help make center pieces for the table, which wouldn’t be much because we’ll have less than 40 people there. I’d say maybe even less than 30 people. We have a very small circle lol we have a friend who has TONS food out chairs and would be happy to let us borrow them, he also has some long tables we could use for food or even for guests to use to sit and eat. My in laws have offered their backyard for the the ceremony and the reception, which of course is amazing. They have a beautiful lake across the street from their house. So I think the only things we’d have to actually pay for are our clothes, my dress and whatever he wants to wear, the food, and we’d probably do something simple and inexpensive, the invitations and centerpieces, the marriage license (of course lol) and maybe some flowers… maybe a few tables for people to eat at if we can’t borrow some, and I think that’s it! You’re video was super helpful in narrowing these things down for me and I really can’t express my gratitude for you taking the time to create this video. I am very appreciative, thank you so much! Also your wedding was beautiful and I hope you 2 are still just as happy as you were the day you said I do!!! ❤❤

Can I just say that asking a photographer to do your wedding for free is generally a crappy thing to do? Exposure is...nothing.

I get that, for sure! I'm wanting to update this video because there are a few things I would do differently now. What would you suggest from a photographers point of view to help keep photography costs down? I'm not about under paying people for professional services but also want to help couples get married on a mega low budget if that's their only option.

@@samxamy Bartering for one of your own skills. Like if you are a cook, cook for them for however long. If you’re an artist, make them something. If you do services, like hair cutting or nails or massages, offer that. Generally, asking for a friend to do photography for free makes them not be able to attend your wedding as an actual guest. It’s crappy because people think that it’s easy, but you have to think about the mental tax and time after the wedding to edit.

Great video! Our venue is a beautiful public park, with horses and a beautiful pond near our reserved area. It cost us only $140. I am getting my dress from Hebeos and having my aunt customize it for me. We are having a rustic themed wedding with a BBQ reception. Our budget is about 3k-5k. I truly believe we can do it for 3k. My co-worker is a wedding planner so I have an amazing discount. My dad and my mothers best friend is photographers. It's always great to have a budget plan. We plan on buying a home after the wedding so we didn't want to break the bank. Great ideas❣️

That's amazing - good for you! It's not everyone's cup of tea and I know it's outside of the box (especially asking people to pay for their own meal - that's not been a fan favourite on youtube) but at the end of the day it was my wedding/ it's your wedding and that's that really! I'm all for people doing things their way so long as they feel comfortable with it.

Our venue is going to be on my family property there is plenty of space for a party of at least 100 and the chapel is on site as well... both free

I am a former wedding consultant, you done a great job, I read some of the comments, some of these people need to come down from their "high horse" 1st at weddings what the heck do you think that "box" is for it in not to put a toaster in, I would tell people do not get a professional photographer or any of those people, They think they are all that and they are not, many have had to go to court cause their art sucked, they think they know it all. I seen very good wedding photos used with a camera or even one of these disposable cameras, do not fall into that trap. A lot of them are not worth what they cost. As far as people paying for their meals, what is wrong with that, if people do not like it do not go to the wedding. I told/tell couples have a cook-out or something for your engagement party, see who congratulates you(a card) invite them, If one can be rude,well so can you and it helps with the guest list.

Pay for your own meal instead of a a wedding gift. Genius

The idea of finding someone "up and coming" or a student for photography and videography and suggesting they shoot the wedding for free is an unethical tip. As an artist myself and former art major in college, it's not fair to ask someone to do a whole wedding free of charge because at the the end of the day, it is work and they need and deserve to be compensated (even on just the basis of equipment alone which is very pricey). This is especially with the suggestion to search for someone who had done work prior- if they have a portfolio then they most likely did not work any of the event work for free. For a professional, you're paying for the price of time, knowledge/professionalism learned, and the equipment, which once again isn't cheap. Negotiating for a more bargain deal is a much better suggestion since students will be learning and will be more understanding/gaining experience from the event. If it's a friend or a family member, it is more acceptable for "free work" if they are willing to shoot for you, but let them suggest it first. Many people often feel entitled to artist's work simply because they're related or know them. It's incredibly degrading and often they don't realize that that particular family/friend may want to actively participate and enjoy the wedding, not work it. It is a job. Many people like to suggest paying in "exposure to other people" (aka no compensation/no money for time spent, resources used, time spent learning how to photograph an event of this scale). Often it leads to nothing; no leads, no new jobs or by word of mouth, it ultimately leads to "exposure" jobs which don't pay the rent/tuition/etc. That was incredibly kind of your cousin who could make it work for your wedding specifically, but to tell others to search in an effort to get free wedding coverage is taking advantage of young artists who work very hard (a wedding is a whole job that can last up to 8-10 hours) and may not know better or feel like they deserve compensation, even if they're getting the education to become a professional. There's no "offer" here; it's "offering" no money to do a very large job for free. All of your other tips were very well made, so thank you for sharing them. They were genuinely helpful and informational.

I couldn't agree more! Camera equipment and experience do not come for free. She also made no mention of the officiant. Maybe someone did it as a gift, but that too is presumptuous and doesn't pay that person's bills either. There's being thrifty and down right tacky.

@@judydollarhite4982 I've had family members just assume that I'm willing to do work for them for free. "Non-artists" don't always understand how long the process takes/how long I took to learn the craft/how expensive supplies are... I was in college for 6 years for my Fine Arts degree! When she said "offer that they photograph for your wedding for free", I literally gasped. That's not an offer... That's a very large job and there's a reason why professionals charge a large amount- They have to attend an all day affair, photograph the entire thing, edit, make it perfect....it's a very large undertaking. I absolutely understand asking friends and family because chances are, they absolutely do want to help! But it really comes down to the individual person because it's just...so much work. The best thing to do is educate so people don't do this....it's a significant part of the job to tell people "no, this is my profession and I need to pay my rent/eat/live/etc." I'm just glad it resonated with people.

My wedding photographer was 🚫 t a friend or family member, but we had him take our announcement photos, wedding photos and reception photos all for the agreement that we would print double pictures (this was 20 years ago) and he could use the pictures in the portfolio and all expenses paid for travel etc. It ended up costing us $400 total, including the prints.

I totally understand what you’re all saying, and three years on from getting married I wouldn’t do the same thing again. I didn’t make the suggestion myself, my cousin offered to do it for free as she saw it as a benefit for herself. That being said, the suggestion is there for those who don’t have someone stepping forward and offering themselves in order to keep the cost down to where I did. Again that being said, three years on my advice would be to negotiate a price as I have more of a respect and understanding of photographers and artists and just paying people for their services in general!

Thank you! There are some things I would do differently now looking back but at the end of the day it was what we had at the time and we loved it! It was our wedding day and it was special to us! That's what matters :))

Did you pay the person who performed the ceremony? In the USA thats usually at least $100.

Literally $250 USD? 😳 That's so cool, I was thinking of upwards of 5K to maybe a maximum of 15k. Though I'd also like to possibly travel out the country for my future wedding. Though just for the wedding, this gives me the hope that 5K between the two of us will be plenty for the wedding. Maybe even could pay for the travel.

Such a great question. I actually love vintage and when I went looking I honestly didn’t like the ones in the jewellers as much as the ones in the pawn shops ... so that’s where my engagement ring was from. And we got wedding bands at a jeweller but we haggled the price down to just over 50% (it was not a very popular jeweller so they want to make a sale and have so much wiggle room with price so try your luck!) x

Sorry for the long wait on the reply. I can’t remember exactly but I think it was about AU$40. We didn’t pay anything until after we were married and we went to the registry office to get the certificate and I believe there was a free option but didn’t include the pretty certificate that you get but we wanted that.

I'm sure she meant no harm in suggesting free work from a photographer, and it was just misguided advice, so i'll focus on what could be done instead: Instead of ripping off a professional photographer, i'd ask a friend if they could do it, or propose a trade of some sort so at least both parties are getting something out of it. Heck, maybe even just have your parents or some of the other guests take pictures with their phones. Sure the quality won't be as good as a professional photographer's equipment, but phone cameras actually have pretty decent quality now.

Have everyone wear their own dress, the bride choose the color( ie, purple/lavender) flexible scheme, all feel beautiful in their individual style.

@@famoushollywood this is actually a cultural thing. In some countries apparently it's expected/traditional for the bride to get the dresses. In America it's more typical for the bride to pick either a dress or a color and the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses. It's understood that buying a dress is part of what you agree to when you say you'll be in the wedding.

No, I didn’t ask anyone. To be honest, I think it’s more to do with the attitude that you have to begin with. If you set out with the intention of allowing people to step in and help people will sense that and if they have a talent they will want to step in and help. People want to feel involved. I can understand not going overboard with an expensive wedding but in my humble opinion, if you are really that strapped for cash when planning a wedding... You should probably postpone and save up to have something that isn't so cheap. You don't want to look back on your wedding day with regret. Also, get a professional photographer. Trust me. Well worth it.

I've never regretted having a casual outdoor wedding on a budget. It was what we both wanted. If you've always dreamed of a big fancy wedding, then this type of budget do isn't for you, but if small and informal is your style, why pay more for something you don't want?

@Amy Livingston I feel like people go to extremes. A big, huge fancy wedding or a low-budget celebration. Getting married is (hopefully) once in your life. So you would like to make it memorable. That's hard to do when the celebration is somewhat mundane. I'm just saying there is a happy middle.

You must pay your photographer/ videographer. This was a terrible tip and isn’t respectful to the artist. “Exposure” doesn’t pay my bills or put food on the table

Seems kind of rude that after saving all the money you did, you couldn’t provide a meal, especially after all the help.
