Never use or think the word "pain". Each contraction has "power" that brings the birth nearer. Power not pain.

I've had 4 kids (pregnant with #5). 3 epidurals, one unmedicated. Unmedicated was FAR AND AWAY the best experience! Does it hurt? Yes, in a way. It's extreme pressure. I've been sprayed in the face with OC spray (required for my deployment) and I can genuinely tell ou give me childbirth any day over that. It's all about preparation. Take the time to learn the labor stages. Watch videos of unmedicated labors. Most of all, practice. I prepared by each time I had round ligament pain, each time I had Braxton Hicks, or even real contractions while I had prodromal labor, I would focus as if it was full on labor. Stop entirely, move, breathe deeply (in for four, out for six). I listened to music I find calming. When the time came, I did all those things out of habit. I labored at home, in the middle of the night, silently (4 year old was crashed out next to me in the living room). I was an 8 by the time I got to the hospital, and really the only thing that caused me real pain was the anxiety induced by the very unsupportive hospital staff. Don't fight the pain. Let it be. Embrace it andnfocus entirely on your breathing.

Your comment really helped me. I’ve always said OC spray was worse than childbirth. I had my first with an epidural and my second was an emergency c-section. I’m pregnant with #3 and I plan to do it unmedicated. Thank you for your comment!

This truly calmed me down. I’m 34 weeks pregnant and planning on having a VBAC. My midwife I feel like is trying to scare me by telling me my son is growing large, therefore pushing me into a c-section. But I’m tuning into my body and I believe I can deliver my son into this world.

I had two unmedicated births, 9lbs 11oz and 10lbs 2 oz!! 😬 It was so beautiful and so painful. But the pain is so temporary and the high after birth is out of this world. I was lucky to have fast births and didn’t need any interventions. The pain of birth is kind of traumatizing in the moment. But it made me realize how strong the women’s body is. I will always remember my births, and I’m grateful for the experience. ❤️

  • @marilourun

    @marilourun

    2 жыл бұрын

@@Elizabeth-gb2tk congrats on the pregnancy. I’m actually pregnant too with my third and due in March. Here is my experience with tearing. I did have a severe 3rd degree tear with my first but he was not only 9lbs 11oz but he also had a big head. But the recovery was super easy and I didn’t have any issues. While some people will have a first or second degree tear and really struggle with recovery so it’s all very individualized. I had a second degree tear with my second who was 10lbs 2 oz and once again didn’t have any problems with recovery. Don’t worry too much about things you cannot control, some have 7lbs babies and end up with 3 rd or 4th degree tears. It also depends on positioning of baby etc. Now about your baby measuring 95 % tile, it’s all just a best estimate. My babies were always measuring very average 7 lbs babies and would come out as 10 lbs babies so they really had no clue. It’s not worth getting anxious about, my third baby now is measuring 2 weeks behind and I can guarantee you this little girl will be above 8 lbs. I just have a long torso and make big babies. No matter the size of the baby, giving birth without an epidural will be the worst pain you have ever experienced BUT it’s all temporary and we will survive and have a beautiful baby in the end.

And yes I do use the word “pain” because to me that’s what it was. I don’t want to sugar coat it because it is what it is. So many people are surprised by the intensity of labor because they had only listened to natural, calm and controlled birth stories but for the majority of us it will not be the case. Most of the time it feels out of control because your body takes over BUT it is doing what it’s suppose to do.

I've had 3 unmedicated natural labours, and am due any day with my 4th (they were great and smooth experiences, but I'm still preparing for this labour by watching positive videos like this one). I agree with everything you said - your body knows what it's doing and will birth your baby no matter what; it really is more of a mental game than anything. I fought the contractions with my first (and even third) but welcomed them with my second and after his birth I experienced all the amazing endorphins and hormones. I'll have to remind myself to welcome them again this time because they're actually helping you and your baby, not harming/damaging you, and are therefore not to be feared. I will add a "YES, thank you" this time as per your tip! Also, the tub really helped me relax and distract myself a bit, I highly recommend water birth or at least labouring in the tub!

Love this video!! But remember, don't be ashamed if this doesn't work for you and your body. I was on the brink of c-section with my first after 12 hours of 0 progress and broken water. We got the epidural (since I would have needed it placed for c-section anyways) 3cm-10 and baby out within 30 minutes. This being said, I absolutely did love the experience I had of those 12 hours laboring without it. I'm also not ashamed that my body needed further help, and I'm beyond excited to see how this labor goes within the next couple of weeks

It seems epidurals actually relax the mom and speeds up dilation. The stress from the agonizing pain tenses body and impedes dilation. She many stories of women who dilate quickly after their epidural. They rest, sleep and before they know it are fully dilated

Epidural helps a lot specially with long labors! I am a nurse and I don't like this social pressure of having natural births, do it if your body handles and still progress in a steady speed but there are reasons for hospital interventions. Hundreds years ago people gave births st homes and died much much more then today because no, labor is not always natural for everybody. Your body built for it is not %100 mean you would not get complications and maybe might lose your life!!

Labor nurse here. This actually happens quite often. As much as I love unmedicated birth sometimes something comes up for people (there are a lot of things that can affect labor) that causes a body to be unable to relax. Better to try an epidural before going straight to a section if lack of progress is the reason a provider is encouraging a surgical birth.

I love love loved this video! As a brand new mother to be, never having a child in my life, but always wanting to do it completely without mediccation, because I believe that's what you're meant to do as a woman, this video litterly was a huge confidence booster for me. thus far the midwife I've had so far has been amazing. Oh yeah, I'm not that far along in my pregnancy journey either, lol. I just loved looking at this video. I'm also a huge I wanna prove everyone wrong person as well, and I seriously want to do this! I don't care where I have the birth, but I've made it clear already to close friends that I want a midwife and I do not under any circumstances want an epidural. I loved your tips on the transition phase because I know that will be the hardest, but I'm already practicing little afrimations in my head for the entire period. Hopefully I can remember to use them haha. Please everyone enlighten me! I am beyond excited to be a mom and my husband and I have long awaited to go on this journey! I know some people will judge me just like they judfed you when you first did this with your first child, but I'm so glad you stuck with it and are the exact kind of person I am, because I really really needed this video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it! I feel like it really spoke to me and who I am as a woman! Also, as a sidenote, you don't have to see to know how cute your little boy was in that video. That's right, I'm also totally blind and doing this as well for the first time!

Loved watching your video. 39+5 and very ready to meet my little guy (my 3rd). Had epidural for my last two pregnancies and docs that forced me to lie on my back for most of the time. This time around I’ll be doing anything but being on my back. That’s my biggest reason for no epidural to be able to move around as much as I like and to push and give birth in whatever position will feel comfortable to me at that time. And kudos to you momma for getting this video done with your little helper by your side 😁👍🏻

This was the best video I’ve watched about drug free birth. SO positive and reassuring! I’m only 5 weeks pregnant but trying to figure out which route I want to take for the birth, I’ve always wanted a drug free, but of course the pain scares me. This has made me so much better about my decision!

Just gave birth on Sunday to my first. I labored at home for 12 hours. Once I got to the hospital I was 5.5 cm. Within 2 hours I was 8cm and couldn't control my breathing from the pain and decided to get an epidural so I could relax and not put the baby in stress. I wanted an all natural, maybe next time

I had an epidural with my first and it was fine. But I'm expecting baby number 2 now and I'd really like to do it unmedicated! My ob was very cool about it when I brought it up so I'm hopeful that I can make it through. This video was very encouraging!

I believe I can do this! This was so inspiring, honestly I would tell everyone that I wanted a natural birth and they would laugh at me or sarcastically say “good luck” If the women from back then could do it, so can I ! Honestly my teen mom cat gave birth to 3 kittens right by feet in bed. I think about all these animals of how natural birth is. There is nothing wrong with natural birth and of course nothing to brag about.

I like the idea of visualizing what is happening inside, telling myself that my baby is on her way, my body is making a way for her, she is coming, etc. when those strong contractions come. Tbh, other types of visualizations would probably not work for me. The typical affirmations and visualizations with blue skies and rainbows terribly annoy me. I cannot take them seriously so I think they would anger me rather than calm me. So, I will try to think of what is actually happening and why it is good and important. I hope this will help get me through. I get the idea of not using the word pain, so MAYBE I will try not to use that word, but it also feels a bit untrue. So, I think it's also fine to just remind myself that the pain is benefitting me and the baby, that it is necessary, that it's a sign of her coming, good things are happening. It is OKAY that labor and pain are necessary so that on the other side we can find liberation and joy.

Even though I love the thought of a natural birth. I was induced and was 'in pain' for longest 2 days of my life. I was given drugs to sleep for few hours as I couldn't even sleep myself. So when it came to my active labour and they broke my water. I simply couldn't not anymore. I was exhausted and as much as I didn't want an epidural I asked for it. It gave me a night of sleep whilst my husband was topping up epidural so I could get some rest before pushing. And the needle which I was so afraid of was totally nothing.

I was a high school student shadowing anesthesiologists in the hospital. One of the docs I shadowed had me place the epidural. Seeing how long the needle is, and knowing they let someone with absolutely no medical knowledge place it made me terrified to ever have one placed.
