    Hi, I was thinking of buying one of these hatcheries. Do you need to have a light on all night ? and what about room temperature ?

  • @EverythingaquaticNet

    @EverythingaquaticNet

    4 жыл бұрын

    I didn't put a light over it. Just ambient lighting was sufficient. I put it into a 2 gallon tank with a heater to maintain a stable temperature. Kept it around 80f as that is the temp I set for my angelfish fry.

    Very good video but how do you get the shrimp out of the coffee filter and back into the hatchery tube?

  • @EverythingaquaticNet

    @EverythingaquaticNet

    2 жыл бұрын

    After letting the hatchery sit idle the shells will float and the live shrimp will sink/swim. Once separated I use the tubing to drain out the amount of shrimp needed, then restart hatchery. The shrimp in the filter is dumped in the tank, and sometimes pre-rinsed. Then I simply swish the filter in the tank to release.

  • @EverythingaquaticNet

    There are many reasons, including: 1. Eggs too old and has a greatly reduced hatch rate 2. Purchased eggs have a low hatch rate. 60% vs 95% will produce greatly different results 3. Salt content not at the correct level 4. Eggs not stored properly and lost viability 5. Not waiting long enough for eggs to hatch. Depending on temperature, eggs can take up to 30 hours to hatch. 6. Water has too low ph or is too soft. May need to add some baking soda. You will need to experiment with what you have to figure it out. But you may simply need to purchase from another source. If not stored properly then results will be disappointing.

    Hi, is your salt to egg ratio 50/50? Also, are you using plain kosher salt? Thanks!

  • @EverythingaquaticNet

    @EverythingaquaticNet

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, that would be too much salt. For each liter of water you need 10 grams salt and 3-5 grams BBS eggs. So the salt to eggs ratio us a little less than 2:1

  • @EverythingaquaticNet

    @EverythingaquaticNet

    4 жыл бұрын

    For the longest shelf life store the dried eggs in the freezer. Once hatched you can keep them in the refrigerator for a couple of days, but ideally you only want to hatch what can be eaten in a 24 hour period. As the egg sack is consumed the nutritional value degrades quickly.

    If you used a hatchery, not an incubator, then there are many reasons. Most common are BBS eggs non-hatching or are no longer viable or salinity is off. Could be pH is too low as well.
