Nice! I planted half a head of store bought garlic somebody was going to throw out and now have four heads of homegrown, delicious garlic.

Garlic has blued for me in a ferment of green beans. Still delicious and a novel color to have in the mix.

I put my garlic in the fridge for 2 months before I planted it because were I live it doesn't get that cold it was my first time doing it and my garlic was bigger than last season it works.

This is my first year growing garlic , this is so informative thanks💐☺

Nice video and timely. Its my second year growing garlic. Last year I waited to long and a lot of the bulbs split. They were still good, we just had to use those up first. My wife even put some in cooking oil to preserve them and give the oil a nice flavor. I didnt lay them flat to cure them. I hung them up in my shed with some string and it worked nicely, I did the same with my onions.

Oh yeah that works too! I mostly wanted to convey that they needed to not be piled up on top of each other. I've heard some people have concerns about making garlic oil, what's your method?

@@AuxhartGardening My wife did it, I do the gardening, she takes care of the kitchen. She simply took some of the bulbs, took out the cloves, and put them in a bottle of oil and let it sit for about two months. It took a long time to use, and just kept getting better and better garlic flavor.

Hi Rachel QUESTION…… is it better to bring garlic indoors or garage or is it fine outside Under COVERED patio 🤔 while it cures ??? If it looks like rain in forecast Let me know if you have a sec 😊 Loved how you gave us a lot of info. But in a simplistic way Huge Help Thank you so much! Oh btw it may help to know I’m in zone 7b-8 MS When we have some humidity

If it's pretty humid in your area, I'd recommend bringing it inside to cure if you have the space.

Hello Rachel, I am seeing so many garlic videos now. I started mine on Nov 6th so I am maybe 3-4 weeks out still. I keep close eye everyday. The onions are next to the garlic then the potatoes then the corn. That should be the order I harvest them based upon when I planted them all. The folks in the UK are all talking about a rust they get on garlic and I have never seen it other than in pictures. Do you have any of that in your area? I would be afraid that the monster garlic will eat the little garlic in the dark of night. Kinda like 6 being afraid of 7 ya know. Thank you for the video I will look forward to the next one!! bye for now

Hi Rachel, I planted 8 cloves in a pot on my patio the last day of September because im in an apartment with a small patio. Im in zone 8 and im very excited to see how they will turn out. Its my first time and I think harvest time is around April. Can I freeze the garlic? Thanks for the video, I learned a lot. Elaine in north carolina

I've never tried freezing garlic, so I don't actually know! Try with a couple cloves and thaw it out and see how it is.

What variety is that huge kale in your garden? Looks amazing. Would it survive winter in zone 5b?

I tie mine and hang it..but ive got over 400 bulbs

Why dont you want the Green when you are going to cure it? Its lovely!

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but when you cure garlic, you want it to dry out. If it's still got green in the stem, that means it's still holding water and it's not done curing.

Hi, may I know what is the reason why some outer skin of garlic have a slight violet color? I saw some in the market , and notice it in some garlic although they are the same variety. Some vendor say that is because its local variety, and some says that it is garlic that is not fully mature and its cloves will dry up more fast , so I'm kinda confused to know which is the truth

I'm pretty sure it's a variety thing. Inchelium red for example has some redish purple coloring.

@@Deck1ngUK I’m not really familiar with their shipping policies unfortunately. But I will say that varieties that do well in my hot and humid climate are likely to struggle more in yours. My recommendation for impressive garlic is to look for a variety native to your region and then plant the biggest cloves you grow year over year.

Again thanks for your input, I’ve made contact with EFP, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I harvested my garlic too early...like 7 months..did i ruin it? Can it be replanted to finish or is the damage already done? Leaves were yellowing well..

Sorry I just saw this. I'm not sure if you can replant it. If the leaves were yellowing, there might be some other reason that they didn't bulb up. Hardneck varieties need to have a certain amount of freezing weather over the winter to be stimulated to bulb. Watering inconsistently can also be an issue.

Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. My garlic is 49 inches tall and I feel it's getting close to harvesting but I pulled a few to check and the bulbs are fairly small?? Any advice?

That sounds really tall. 49 inches? If the bulbs are small, check if you planted hardneck or softneck garlic and which one does better in your area.

@@AuxhartGardening ya it is tall and looks good except smallish bulbs. Chesney red, Music and German white also elephant garlic. But it's all hardneck, western Montana!?

@@ericseegers5950 I'm not as familiar with how hardnecks grow, but they seem to be in the right environment. Are they definitely beginning to die back? If so, the next thing I'd think to check would be how much water they got or soil nutrient density. Either one of those could make a big difference in how big the bulbs get. Or if they had to compete with weeds that would decrease the size as well.

I waited way too late and all the skin and stalk was gone. Like I literally had to fish around in the dirt for the head…so it is okay to use? Just use it right away?

As long as it looks okay, should be good to eat right away! You can also dehydrate it in the oven on the warm setting with the door cracked to make garlic powder, or peel the cloves and store them in white vinegar in the fridge.

6:50 What if I pull it too early? Eat it anyway.
