Thank you for the detailed explanation. I was trying to figure out how to secure the brackets evenly in an aesthetically pleasing way but also sturdy, not knowing how to work in the studs into the spacing. I hadn't thought about the snap toggles. This information was very helpful.

One thing I do when hanging shelves is to count up the screws I need and press them into a piece of cardboard and spray paint the screw heads the same color as the brackets then they simply blend in with the bracket.

Leah you did it again! I can so do this. I fixed the hole in my bathroom door after watching your video - turned out ah-may-zing! Then I learned all about tools and just when I need to hang some shelves I also learned a long level is more accurate, what a snap toggle is, how to make it plum (plumb?), drilling pilot holes AND what striking the line means. Good grief what bang for your buck! Thank you so much. My new quarantine home office is going to rock!

Thanks! I have guitar holders for my walls that I tried to put up, and thought I had it in a stud. Luckily it only tore off as I pulled the guitar off for some practice, but it made me nervous about using them, which is inconvenient because the space they saved getting them off the floor was amazing. I'll look through more of this channel and try again I think. the hardest part is all the false positives in trying to find the stud

Thanks for the detailed video! This is far more useful than most other videos, especially on how to find studs and how to hang a bracket where there isn't a stud. But some questions --- Can snap toggles be used with the common plastic wall anchors that you find at Home Depot? And do you recommend those plastic wall anchors at all? Some professionals say they're not strong enough. I don't want to worry about weight on the shelves. And how do you know what size toggle to get, 1/4 or 3/16?

The walls in my appartment are not straight up and down. After installing angle brackets flush with the wall, then setting the shelf on the bracket, my shelf is always tilted forward, or back depending on the wall. Should I just shove a small chunk of wood between the bracket & the shelf? Not sure what the best, or should I say most secure solution would be.
