How To Hack Your Wikipedia Profile & Make Yourself A Tech God | Mr. Robot

Ойын-сауық

Elliot here with your how to guide on how to hack your Wikipedia profile to make yourself look like a tech god. Use this tactic to impress your friends & stun your enemies.
From Mr Robot Season 1 Episode 5 "eps1.4_3xpl0its.wmv" With the help of fsociety, Elliot infiltrates Steel Mountain through the use of what he calls "human exploits". He coincidentally meets Tyrell and uses his ego to gain access to the restricted area where he needs to connect his Raspberry Pi loaded with the program to override the climate control system and destroy E Corp's tape back-ups. Tyrell reveals he knows that Elliot framed the CTO, but will not turn him in. The Dark Army refuses to attack the back-up facility in China, which puts fsociety's plan in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Tyrell and Joanna have dinner with the CTO candidate Scott and his wife Sharon in an attempt to find their weaknesses. Tyrell sexually approaches Sharon in the bathroom. Angela leaves Ollie after telling him she infected Allsafe with the hacker's CD, and moves in with her father. She discovers that he is deeply in debt from her mother's old medical bills. Elliot finds Shayla's phone on the floor. Fernando Vera calls him on it from prison, with the suggestion that he has organized Shayla's abduction. He blames Elliot for turning him in to the police.

RFID Card copying is also intelligent move. When I have been studying computer engineering as third year , I saw some people who works at companies such as software engineer etc. are also carrying their entry badge. In these days , companies has to teach employees how to be secure.

There is a more secure version of RFID/NFC entries nowadays. These are just cheap ones that use UID to authenticate. Better ones exist that actually authenticate the card itself with challenge-response protocols.

I've never really liked the way they covered Wikipedia in this episode. I'm pretty sure that all Wikipedia edits are archived, even after deletion, so if Ecorp wanted to look into who this fake "Sam Sepiol" guy is, they reasonably could've found the edit showing that photo of Elliot's face

It's editable by the public, but unless you're a respected, or 'approved' wiki editor then your changes might be rejected. It's not hacking.. but it's social engineering. Mobley uses his wikipedia clout to post articles that wouldn't otherwise pass through the other editors. Or at least that's the logic that the show puts forward lol

And this is why you should never trust Wikipedia, even if there are sources. What you should trust is your logic only. If Wikipedia says something, and there's not an apparent source, take it with a grain of salt (in other words don't simply trust such information). If it says something, and a source has been included (a link to source, or reference to a book), don't be cocky and make sure to verify the information does exist in the source, and the information is true to the source. Make sure to verify the source is trustworthy. It's not particularily easy, there were in fact number of troll articles that were pretty convincing in the credibility, it even had sources that seemed trustworthy. The only downside is, the sources were fake, they never existed. However these fake articles have been undetected for years, so you can see how mystification works and how much powerful it is. Most of trolls like that are deleted in a heartbeat, but someone with a serious dedication and very much thought trough concept could make a mystification article that may stick around for long enough to fool many people.
