    People worry too much about the perception of others. Dropping parts of your style because of age, actively trying not to follow trends, hating pieces based on popularity, etc. Fashion is a form of self expression. Just be yourself and your style will "Mature" just fine.

    sometimes it’s for practicability though, which directly affects how you want to dress. lots of people go into college changing their style because they can’t wear the same flashy outfits as they used to in high school 24/7. it’s just easier to adapt in a way flexible to you, which means you’ll consume less products and shop more consciously.

    I get your comment. Fashion is a sensitive topic😅. Here me out: I think some of Drew’s videos are more tailored towards people that are truly into fashion i.e they want to expand their knowledge and get inspirations for their style as a more artistic expression. For this audience it’s not about dressing to impress, it has a more artistic and creative touch I believe.

    What I would add to this list is layering. These days instead of going for a sweatshirt for example, I often go for a white shirt and a cardigan. I’m surprised myself how much this improves my outfits and makes them look more mature.

    Heavily agreed ! Lately I have kind of become obsessed with cardigans & sweater vests . They just feel... me, y'know ? I have never felt so comfortable & happy in specific garments, except for cardigans & sweater vests. I feel so much more mature, also like a grandpa in general but IDC, I've been rocking them all fall // winter. Not to mention that layering them is fun, too ! I'll sometimes put a white shirt, or a collared shirt for a more formal gathering. Sad that as the spring is coming where I live, I won't be able to wear them but I want to invest in more interesting collared tops :-)

    So funny that this has come out now because literally yesterday I was on a shopping spree for a professional wardrobe (I'm just starting a teacher training course straight out of uni) and putting on the new clothes has such a massive effect on my perception of myself - like damn, maybe I am a grown-up now 😂

    i think for some people, maturing your style involves dressing slightly more basic for practicality rather than trying to constantly wear noticeable items and graphics. i used to exclusively shop at hot topic and bought every trend even if the style was awful on me, and now i’m very intentional about finding what fits me but gives the visual effect i want. i would dress like one of those tiktok “mall goths” and now dress slightly more like some of those banana republic ads. my clothing is also much more versatile and affordable now that i focus on basics and necklines that flatter me. kibbe type was also good for helping me.

  • @so27109

    @so27109

    it starts off basic because you should follow the rules before you break them. it can get boring pretty quickly though and if you're still interested in fashion, there's a good chance you'll start to figure out ways to bend the rules a little bit and make your outfits more interesting with small detail differences.

    I don’t think maturing one’s style is for everyone, though I do think it is important to know how to dress for an occasion. For men you don’t really have to think it much, we can just put a suit and call it a day for most formal events Alsothe word mature kinda bothers me, feels like it pushes people to “dress their age” as they get older & that just lacks self expression regardless of how hard you try with accessories

    Another tip for determining how something fits is to reference your favorite clothes that already fit well. Just find the size chart for that item online or measure it yourself. From there you can very easily get an idea of how something online will fit when your compare the size chart measurements. I used to 100% avoid online shopping because I hate the return process if something doesn't fit, but recently this tip has worked so well for me that I don't really mind anymore. All of these tips are great but I can't stress it enough, tip #3 will unlock a new level of fashion fir you no matter what age!

    I think you're equivocating on a couple of things here, and this cause leads to the symptom of you constantly trying to say "I don't mean this, I mean that." As somebody who likes a lot of the type of clothing you describe as "mature," I'd like to separate out some ideas. For one, there's an important distinction between a person's personal style maturing, and a person wearing clothing that a more mature person might wear. The latter is, to me, a complex value judgement and set of expressive choices worth getting into, but I'd like to start by mentioning why the former is not the same at all. When a person's style matures, they develop a better understanding of what they like to wear. This does not necessarily mean more formal or more business-appropriate or more adult clothing. I know a lot of people who wore suits through high school, wore hardcore vintage in college, and only started getting into more casual perspectives in adulthood, once they started to get a better perspective on style. Their tastes matured, and took them in entirely the opposite direction as the one you suggest. I don't like the way you suggested that slimmer cuts are more traditional or more mature. Slimmer cuts are not common in history, in traditional tailoring, in ivy style, in fashion before the 70s... they're merely a trend from the mid-2000s. At some moment, it sounded like you were suggesting that they were more mature because they're more widely accepted, which... I hope you did not mean. But yes, some people might want to dress in more subdued colors, more traditional styles, less casual styles, or something else to fit into a different context. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not inherent to the clothing-it's not that it makes the wearer look more mature, it's that it's more agreeable in contexts where you're expected to dress in a certain way. Yes, wearing Ralph Lauren to your office job instead of Rick Owens can have many practical benefits, but the practical benefits are a result of social language, not a result of the clothing being inherently "smarter." I think that's an important distinction.

    fighting people with a shoehorn has gotta be the best fashion advice i've heard in awhile AHAHAHA i'd personally rec storing your ties on a tie rack or simply have undone, flat on a hanger -- i have mine draped over a pants hanger. this helps to maintain the integrity of the tie as leaving it knotted for long periods of time can distress the wool/fabric. ties have been such an integral addition to my wardrobe with polishing up my usual skater/workwear attire while also allowing me to still experiment with designs and ways of tying it :o)

    i got a shoe horn, but it's because of the shoes i have that don't slide on/off as easy. it's reflected in my life and style that at heart i'm a lazy guy who just wants shit to be easy and comfy but still work for my neurotic enthusiast brain

    #pvv I am very new to shoehorns, just bought one last month but tbh, idk if it is the lenght but it does not work with converse (hi tops) for me, so i only use it for low top sneakers, that i dont wear often and proper boots, loafers and Oxfords, dont regret it tho
