I was in my first year flower farming and had a cold spring in Canada. They were so happy in a cold frame and I then planted them in 3 different areas . One variety of three only thrived . Mata Cana from West Coast seeds. I saved seed and they are up now in styro cups in a cold window. They loved a 10 inch raised bed with a picket fence for a shady trellis. I'm trying 3 more varieties and will see if this holds true again this year ! Happy Gardening
Thank you so much. This is just what I needed!
This was super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing‼️🌺🌿
Very informative - thank you!
excellent tutorial! thank u!
Great video. I learned some things I did not know. I am also in Zone 9b so will plant them in a cool spot.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and I have some
Thankyou for sharing these tips Angela sweet pea blooms are definitely a delight for the senses
Great information! Thank you! 💚
My favorite too
The best Sweet Pea video EVER!!!!! 😮 Here in 9b I sowed them in Dec and I will soon have flowers. They are trailing up my wigwams nicely. I fertilize with fish emulsion.
Exquisite video.
Sweet peas are among my fave flowers, along with sunflowers and African violets.
I'm outside of Kingman and planted sweet peas this year. They are coming up slowly! It's been cold up here. Can't wait to smell them!

how did your sweet peas do?
I’m growing sweet peas for the first time this year, your tips are very helpful…I’m looking forward to many blooms! Thank you.
I put a tomato cage in my sweet pea flowers ❤❤ they're growing right up and grabbing onto it too 😊 it's so cool can't wait till they bloom
Beautiful! Thank you for the advice. I'm growing sweet peas for the first time this spring. "Frills and blushes" and "Twilight" : )
What a great video -- this helped me understand why in past years some of my sweet pea plantings have thrived, while others sort of flopped (it was probably too hot, and I should have watered more often). Thank you!
Thank you.. very good explanation 👍 I will try straightly😍
How gorgeous! I love sweet peas but have never grown them. But this year I thought I’d give them a try. Mine are now six inches in height and already have runners. This is great information. Your video popped up so I was excited to watch. I made a teepee type trellis for a runner. I don’t know the type sweet peas I’ve got so I might better check to see if it will be big enough.
Thanks!

Along with valuable, practical information, this video.was such a visual delight! I can't get enough of the fragrance of some sweet peas -- the ones that smell more like orange blossoms or freesia. The ones that smell closer to stargazer lilies (sharply cloying IMO) no thanks. I'm still figuring out which varieties I like best.
I live in Avondale and I love sweet pea flowers but I have not been successful. Thank you so much for sharing your talent Gardening.❤
One more thing should have been added to this video... Never eat sweet peas as, unlike other types of peas, sweet peas are toxic.

Just to add here, if you plant sweet peas outside in your garden they at my place anyway will be dug up and eaten by birds. I plant only in the greenhouse in Feb so they have a good head start in the spring. We are still in April and my sweet peas are a foot tall. I am on the west coast of British Columbia in zone 9. Another thing to know about them is they are noy all sturdy climbers and not all have aroma. So make sure to read the package before buying.
arggg... I should have started these indoors. I have some seeds I might just throw in the garden to see what they do. I am in zone 5b 6 Ohio and it is 1st of June.
Hello Angela! I have some questions about your beautiful garden & I hope you have the time to answer. I’m in zone 9b, SoCal. I’m rebuilding my garden & took a lot of inspiration & info from your channel. I’m 100% copying your shade structure. My question is about the Grower’s Solution custom shade cloth. I’ve watched your instillation video & the monsoon weather update. I’d like to know how the shade cloth is still holding up to the sun & wind for you: any tears in the fabric, how the grommets are holding up and anything else you have learned. Do you like the 50% or would you choose 40% if you did it again? Why did you choose white over black? All the nurseries around me have black shade cloth & no one can tell me why black over white (I’ve asked). I’m getting close to ordering my shade & would just like some firsthand knowledge from someone who uses the product. Thank you so much!

I chose white because: 1. Diffused light under the shade cloth (less harsh shadows and glare). 2. Increased light quantity and duration for flowering plants than darker types of shade cloth. 3. Reduced heat build-up because it reflects the sunlight. Grommets and cloth held up amazingly well in our crazy wind and monsoons. I had one area where the wire was poking into the cloth that made it tear a little, I repaired the shade cloth with a needle and thread and that area held up very well after that as well. I would do the same thing again if I could start over.
Love them so much! Rabbits love them more 😂
😅oops just started Sweet peas in August, zone 10b, let's see how it goes😂
Were kn the 60s during the day and 40s at night. Z 5 Iowa. Its been a nice wet cold spring. My clematises are going like crazy. My sweet peas have come to a halt.

Shoot. It's always sad when they end. It seems like they would still like your weather though, not too hot for sure!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm also in 9b. I was prepping my beds and waiting for the optimal time to plant when a neighbor cat decided to use my bed as it's litter box. It was so upsetting. Will you be selling your seeds for the next planting season?
@GrowingInTheGarden

No, I'm not selling seeds at this time.
thank you for including celcius
I live in east Mesa. I grew purple bean hyacinth from seed and they were so beautiful. I had to delay planting outside due to the cold weather but I did plant outside about 3 weeks ago. They face west. They are not doing as well trurning yellowish and just look weak compared to how they started out. Is it water or is it too much sun?

Our weather has been CRAZY hyacinth bean definitely prefer warm temps and we've had a couple cold nights. Once things are consistently warm, they will perk back up I'm guessing.

Aphids can be an issue, but if you follow organic gardening principles there are many natural predators of aphids like ladybugs which will help you take care of them.

@@GrowingInTheGarden thank you so much, I looked in my garden yesterday and something had pulled up my new sprouts but did not make off with them. Maybe they figured they were poisonous? I appreciate you! Thanks again
I have never seen peas with so many colors. But if you take the blooms, won’t you stop the plant from producing peas?
What do you plant in the sweet pea spot after they quit?

What do you do when the seed pods start forming? Will my flowers keep blooming if the pods start growing? Will removing them encourage more growth?
@GrowingInTheGarden

Keep removing the pods - that encourages more flowers.
Good for blocking small area's just to hide behind

My issue with sweet peas is that the blooms are very beautiful BUT the plant/vine is so messy/ ugly in the garden. IMO Also it needs support and sowing in the winter... such a faff. Lol
