How To Grow Strawberries from Seed 🍓 (Fast and Easy Method)

Growing Strawberries from seed is Fast and Easy using this Method. mygardenchannel.com/growing-s... Do you enjoy Strawberries? Here is a Simple and Effective way to grow many more Strawberry plants.
In this short video I will show you how to accomplish germinating strawberry seedlings for growing at home!
You can see how small and tiny strawberry seeds are. I like to plant them in cups so that the small seeds do not come out while watering them.
Go ahead and start slicing the strawberry seeds from the fruit. Place them at the top of the pot.
Place the small cuttings of strawberry onto the soil. Make sure to cover the strawberries when planting them with a layer of soil about half inch to an inch.
Pack the soil on top of the strawberry seeds. Make sure to water, then place the container in a warm sunny spot to grow! Strawberry seedlings will start to germinate in about 2 weeks or so.

    Thank you for this video! My 5 year old and I spent 30 minutes picking the seeds off of strawberries with toothpicks before finding your video. Just finished planting and watering. So much quicker and easier your way! Now it's hanging out in a nice sunny spot on our porch. We caught the gardening bug and did tomatoes and small flowers, too.

  • @tyler3613
    @tyler36132 жыл бұрын

    The beige "seeds" that you see on the outside of the strawberry are actually the achene (the covering) of the tiny black seed inside. Achenes prevent the seeds from germinating. In addition, the strawberry pulp will increase disease development in culture, AND the "flesh" will contain compounds that prevent germination. If you want the best germination, then get the seeds out of the achene first. To do this, through your strawberry into a blender with water about 1/3 to 1/2 filled with water. Blend for a few second. Pour out liquid and pulp, leaving a couple hundred mL (A couple ounces of liquid at bottom of blender pitcher. Fill pitcher with liquid again, and slowly pour out pulp and liquid. After a few times, you will see the tiny black seeds, that are more dense than pulp and achenes, sitting at the bottom of the pitcher. Pour seeds on a paper towel. Pick seeds off paper towel. Plant in clean potting mix filled trays.

    You mention cold stratification, is it necessary? You mentioned keeping them in the fridge a while, can you accelerate that or get better results in the freezer?

  • @centripetal6157

    @centripetal6157

    2 жыл бұрын

    For ALL Perennial plants (Strawberries, blueberries, etc) the seeds need cold stratification (winter like temperatures) - or else the majority of seeds won't begin to grow. Cold stratification increases the amount of seeds that grow by 80% - its the difference between getting 3 strawberry plants or getting 25 strawberry plants. Putting seeds in the freezer will not speed up the process - it will actually make the seeds begin to hibernate. In other words don't put seeds in the freezer - it will not cold stratify seeds. To cold stratify seeds put the seeds in the refrigerator between 40 to 30 degrees Celsius in a damp (slightly wet) paper towel for 1 - 2 months. Afterwards put the seeds in seed growing containers at room temperature in shade and they will begin to grow Once you cold stratify seeds you have a limited amount of time to plant those seeds (around 1 week) - the cold stratified seeds that aren't planted will die shortly afterwards and never grow.

  • @moonxshakti

    From what I read, cold stratification is necessary. I think fridge, not freezer, is better.

  • @Gibberwatt

    @Gibberwatt

    2 жыл бұрын

    The cold strat is to imitate winter, keeping them in your fridge is important, as the seeds are waiting for after winter to sprout. The longer you can keep them at 36-40 F the better, up to a couple months

    Yes but why go through that much time and labor to do that. One thing to remember though if you live in the USA. Any food products brought in are irradiated making any seeds worthless. Not sure how other countries do it so buy something grown in which ever country you live in so that won’t be an issue.

    My local Kroger grocery store carries a line of "Giant" brand strawberries and some of them are really HUGE. If I can get seeds of these growing am I going to have large strawberries, too? In other words, do the seeds carry the DNA of the plant or has this grower done something to force their plants to produce large berries? Thank you.

  • @thehelwalife6156

    @thehelwalife6156

    Just make sure the berries are Organic and grown in the USA so that you can be sure they haven't been irradiated. There are strawberries that are naturally large like that, as long as you make sure of the things I said above there's no reason why you can't grow giants too.

    QuestionS: Can you use frozen strawberries? What is the best time of year to plant from seeds? My neighbor gifted me some delicious strawberries that she grew and I'd love to try to grow some! I just potted up a bunch using your method but just as a bit of insurance, I was thinking of maybe freezing a few to plant earlier next year.
