How To Grow Star (Confederate) Jasmine for maximum profit

Ғылым және технология

Star jasmine is a massively popular ornamental plant, and is one of the major plants with income potential produced in nurseries. In this video, we are going to show you how a commercial nursery produces star jasmine.
Star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides), otherwise known as confederate jasmine in the United States, is a massively popular ornamental shrub. While star jasmine is not a ‘true’ jasmine botanically, it is so named for its jasmine-scented flowers. While its bright green foliage and profusion of spring blossoms make it an obvious favourite for gardeners, its tolerance for a wide range of environmental conditions make star jasmine a landscapers delight too. It is the ideal plant for urban islands, as it not only tolerates the suns harsh reflection off tar roads, but pollution and car fumes as well.
As we mentioned, star jasmine can be cultivated in a range of climates. It can withstand moderate frost just as well as high temperatures, a seasonal composting will supply all of its nutrition requirements in most cases, and it will tolerate full-sun to shady areas. For our American viewers out there, you can grow star jasmine as an outdoor perennial in zones 8-10. In the cooler zones, you may wish to plant your jasmine in containers and overwinter them indoors. As vines, these plants are often trained against a trellis or fence. Their arching stems make for very attractive displays when trained around walkways, and they can also be pruned into a variety of topiary forms. With regular heavy prunings, you can also grow star jasmine as groundcovers and small hedges.

    Thank you so much. I planted some jasmine at the cottage that I'm renting and was planning on just leaving it, then buying new plants for my new place. Hadn't even considered propagating it 🤭😎💚

    I live in the nw and my mother I law used to have this huge gorgeous star jasmine growing along the side of her porch outside, I fell in love with it the first time I came to her house and could smell them from nearly a block away. I went out and got myself one as well, planted it a pot in my back yard on side of my porch, and the first summer I had it bloomed twice, spring then summer...it stayed in bloom for awhile into early fall actually. Then winter I did what ide read about to keep them safe from the cold, it did go dormant through winter, but came back next spring, then again summer but my 3rd year with it, now, it's just a stick, it's not come back from this last winter which wad actually mild compared to the others it'd done just fine. Idk what happened or what went wrong,only thing I can think of I a if maybe my.kid might of put something in it's pot when I wasn't watching, like bubbles, soap or Vineland baking soda, I know sometime I've got a neighbor cat who's sprayed a on my porch, but ide smell it on the olant ide think and I don't smell anything off. I'm emptying the pot and going to try transplanting it with fresh soil. Looking at the roots right now and it was a little root bound so I'm giving it a bigger pot, and other than that the roots look fine, full healthy no rot...it's just once you gi up to the stem its just dry all the way through. I live in the nw as I mentioned so it's getting plenty of water,I just don't understand, any ideas?

    Its terrible. Your driveway changes size and you have to literally cut it constantly. If it was on a back fence up against a wood line it would be better

    How tall will it grow if it’s grown in containers?

  • @AgricultureAcademy

    @AgricultureAcademy

    Hi, depends on the container size. If the container is large enough jasmine can grow very tall if trained along a trellis or stake.

    I suggest linking the info pop-up to the actual video soil mix video (make it redirect). At the moment, it just scrolls down the page for the user, and the user has to dig through the links, timestamps, and other featured playlists, before they see it the actual soil mix video.
