If you want sunflowers to grow taller, then After germination just put another tray on top of the sunflowers and leave them in the dark for extra 2 days like that. And only then expose them to the light

I told my wife you are an excellent speaker. Having taken public speaking in college, I recognized good speaking ability. You have very minimal fillers - ums, uhs, etc. You are very fluent with your thoughts which illustrates your high level of knowledge. Clear salt shakers are great for small seed distribution. You may need to enlarge the holes with a small drill bit. Helps avoid clumping.

@@pdlsuper7lanck873 I also grow seeds without soil , in jars , but that's the difference - they are sprouts , not microgreens ; microgreens grow for a bit longer . I wonder whether microgreens are healthier than sprouts ?...I would think so , bc of the precious green chlorophyll content .

Just eat them plain, in salads, on sandwiches, with regular meals as a side. I don't even think there's such a thing as cooking microgreens.

Kevin, I plant dill micro greens all through my garden and it really helps keep cucumber beetles away and lady bugs around to eat the different pest eggs and aphids!

Yeah he has a real talent for explaining things to newbies.

I grow microgreens in my apartment, but in small batches for my own consumption only. My windows don’t get much sun so I can’t grow many other edibles, but the “legginess” you get from growing seedlings in low light is actually a plus with microgreens. They are taller and easier to cut, and of course, they will never have to be strong enough to support a mature plant. I grow mine on paper towels on top of plastic salsa or cole slaw containers filled with water. I cut a couple slits on the lid and pull the ends of the paper towel through and down into the water. The towel wicks up the water in the container to feed the seeds and keep them moist. I leave them in the dark a couple days after they germinate then move them to the window. Each container is one serving. I have an assembly line going. I plant one every day or so. It’s fun and they are my most successful crop.

Thanks for sharing. This videos "bare bones" is still way too big for my apartment. Your approach seems way more reasonable.

Peas will actually continue to grow if you water them. And as they are nitrogen fixers, I think it's worth it to actually plant some (or all) in your garden. Yes, you will damage some of the roots but never underestimate their will to live. Also, soaking is optional, it may take a little bit more time to sprout, but sprout they will :)

I first saw this video several years ago and am revisiting it now as me and my boyfriend have gotten pretty heavy into starting to grow things. I just want to point out that your commentary on what is "organic" is such a perfect way of putting it. I recently had to leave a group on facebook due to a lot of posts about "how they are lying to you cause organic foods still are treated with pesticides and herbicides" and "organic farming still uses chemicals" and other such inflammatory comments and posts. You just seemed to sum it up perfectly here. Yes, organic gardening still uses chemicals and herbacides and fungicides and pesticides... But they are approved, natural, non carcinogenic chemicals. As you say, some things that are mass produced artificially arent toxic or harmful but rather beneficial! And some naturally occurring compounds are deadly as hell! There are mushrooms out there that will kill you if you so much as lick it, let alone eat the whole thing. There is plenty of room for deadly poison in a natural herbalists inventory as much as there is highly lifesaving medicine available due to chemist manufacturing. Thank you for explaining the balance here. People get so stuck on catch words and phrases without understanding the chemistry behind it all. Dihydrogen monoxide sounds absolutely vicious but life on this planet is dependant on it...

I love how willing you are to share this information and so in depth. A lot of growers play the elitest game and keep their information close to thier chest. Knowledge is meant to be shared. Thank you

I've binge watched your gardening videos. My plants are growing out of control, I didn't think anything would survive under my massive non green thumb, but the tomatoes/potatoes are growing like mad! What made you want to switch from sprouting to microgreens?

Your so smart. I love listening to you talk, you explain things in a way that I am able to absorb everything. The word mesmerizing comes to mind. Thank you for this video and all the time you spend sharing your knowledge it’s definitely helped me majorly in my food growing journey. This year was my best growing season and I’m going to be wintering my garden this winter as well as growing hydroponically inside. So I’ll be able harvest a salad at home all year round. Thank you for taking the time to show how this is done! I am just beginning with growing micro greens and just had my first order of 1lb seeds of Radish (Daikon) show up in the mail. Excited to grow this first batch!

I use Wheat Grass in my green juice. It is a recipe that came with my Jacklalane's juicer. 1 handful of wheatgrass wrapped in a kale leaf run it through the juicer along with 3 to 4 spears of fresh pineapple and 1 lemon (I use Meyer lemons). It's like drinking green colored lemonade and really great tasting and if I drink a glass of that when I first start to feel sick, half the time I feel significantly better the next day.

Great guide! I've found that putting a good 4-5 kg of pressure on sunflower trays makes them really sturdy and bushy. I use a couple bricks that I had lying around. If you're going to grow radishes, they need to be soaked, and they like a little bit (1,5 - 2 kg) of weight. When the top tray floats up 3-5 cm or so I take the weight off.

Wow! I just started micrgreens this winter when i put a (small) seedling station in my dining room. I knew the basics - the very basics - but what you showed me is that I was missing a lot of basics: the sowing density, the lighting process, and the fact that harvesting is a one and done - i thought it was a renewable/regrowable resource for some reason. This in turn has encouraged me to continue with my process and to tweak it to make it better. This is a well done video on microgreens! Gardening - always a learning a experience!

The best place to find cilantro, dill, fenugreek, mustard, etc seeds to grow as micro greens is your local Indian grocery store. You cannot beat their price.

That's brilliant!!!! I never thought of that. I do buy lentils from the Indian grocery, and they sprout beautifully and are very tastey in salads!

I just went to my local Indian grocery and asked about it the lentils etc could be sprouted and she didnt know. I have some herbs and lentils I purchased there to try. What makes a seed sprout or not sprout? Ive tried some that sprouted, some not, and always assumed maybe they were exposed to heat chemicals or were old. Is this true?

@@Loopy_lollipop The germ needs to be there. Some lentils are chopped into halves which don't have the germ and they wouldn't sprout.

A small comment regarding synthetic vs. natural from 14:49: Recent articles have talked about natural fertilizers containing PFAS (and other forever chemicals) in high quantities because of concentration in biosolids from sewage sludge. Maybe synthetic fertilizer is actually better for the environment, until there is enough onsite compost to eliminate need for purchased amendments. Another gotcha this year was that I used straw for mulch, but later found that glyphosate is a frequently used desiccant for straw. Keep up the epic videos!

Great video, getting me to sit through 41 minutes is an accomplishment in itself. Have been doing basic sprouts for a couple years, being quarantined here lately I will be branching out to micro-greens, thank you.
