    Well said!!!🥰 There’s a quote about “not being able to see nature without seeing the glory of the creator”. I’m not sure where it’s at in the Bible. I got it from Paul Gautchi ‘the evangelist’ who popularized the “Back to Eden” gardening method.

    As someone who is an extreme newbie to planting flowers - I commend you on this video- it is excellent as far as teaching goes. I just threw some marigold seeds into my 10 inch pot that I grew zinnias in last year - I did this early May and they are just now blooming in August. They are over 4 feet tall!! lol - and the flowers that are blooming are not as wide and bushy as everyone else’s seem to be. I’m still thrilled with them and have decided that marigolds will always represent patience to me considering how long I waited. I’m going to go grab some seeds for next year now thanks to you - sending love & appreciation 🙏🏻💕🌼

    Believe it or not... I just created an account with Google for the express purpose of liking and responding to your video. It is my first year experimenting with marigold seeds and to date I am having some success. It is not an operation like yours. I am dealing with a small number of seedlings planted in eggshell cartons and transplanted into small pots. They'll be moved to my 4th floor urban balcony once they mature a bit. I just bit the bullet and pinched off the first buds on two of my seedlings. So sorry to go on like this but I love, love, loved your video. Again... Thanks.

    I have tried marigolds many times over the years decades in fact, and can’t seem to get them to live. I’ve always heard they’re good to plant your garden to attract pollinators and help prevent insects from feeding on your vegetables. But it seems as soon as I plant mine in the ground, they start to die.

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    3 ай бұрын

    Sorry to hear that. Looks like something in the soil is damaging the roots (a fungal disease). Either you can direct sow seeds in ground, or repot seedling in larger pots until they are well grown and can handle the effecting disease better. Hope you have a better results next time. Thank you for your clear and concise instructions. Quick question: when and how often should I start to fertilize, and what should I use as fertilizer? Also, do you pinch the main stem just the once or is this a regular process? A million thanks for a great tutorial!

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you liked the video. You can start fertilizing when first flower buds appear or about one week after planting. Feed with any flower fertilizer. It is better if fertilizer has a lower nitrogen or N in N-P-K ratio and higher in P to promote more flowers, such as 4-6-2, or 5-10-10. Follow the instruction on the bag on how often to fertilize, in containers usually more often about every 2-3 weeks. And you just need to pinch once. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

    So a 10 inch round pot will accommodate four plants? I'm having a hard time finding information on spacing in pots, most everything I come across is for planting in the ground. Thanks!

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    2 жыл бұрын

    For this variety (dwarf) you can have 4 plants, 4-5 inch apart in a 10 inch pot. The key for planting in pots is to select seed of "container friendly" or like this video "dwarf" varieties. These plants once matured, do not take much space like plants from normal seeds. I do a lot of container gardening and find it as practical/joyful as gardening in ground. Give it a try, it will be fun and rewarding. Happy growing and thank you very much for visiting!

    How do u deal with slugs not eating letters? 🏵🌼

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    2 ай бұрын

    We don't have big problem with slugs here, but placing a shallow bowl of beer next to plants to catch slugs helps. Or you can use organic slug bait such as Sluggo which is basically iron phosphate. Another great option is to sprinkle food grade DE Diatomaceous earth on plants to stop slugs crossing amzn.to/3MumnvJ . Hope this helps and good luck!

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    So glad you love the video! sowing 2 seeds increases the germination rate. You can certainly direct sow them in pots too. Starting seeds in seeds pots just gives you more control of the germination and the growing conditions (temperature, light,...). And scattering seeds is possible and I have done that too. it is ok to keep seed tray inside up to the point when seeds sprout, . But as soon as they pop out, you need to provide light. Otherwise they will be leggy and won't grow well. I generally don't use grow lights. My seed trays are outside in indirect sunlight (under a patio umbrella), or 3-4 hours of direct early morning sunlight. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.

    I usually don't use grow lights. I keep my seed tray inside or in a shed like room in my back yard, but as soon as they sprout, I move them outside to 4-6 hours of early morning sun. If it is cold outside, keep them in a protected space such as cod frame or a clear storage tote. If night temperature drops below 50F (10C), you can bring them inside at nights. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    2 жыл бұрын

    You just need to keep the seed mix moist, I usually water only once or twice before seeds germinate. Marigold seeds are pretty quick to germinate and 30 days is not normal. So most probably you got a bad batch of seeds (which is very normal with the seeds). I suggest either start a new set, or get a new packet of seeds (different brand). I hope this helps and thank you for visiting.

    Marigolds can attract pollinators as well as ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies, parasitic mini-wasps and other predatory insects that will eat aphids and other damaging pests. Marigolds also have a very strong scent which confuses bugs like tomato hornworms, cabbage moths, and beetles so they don't attack your vegetables. With their lovely blooms your garden will look amazing too. Hope this helps and thank you for your comment!.

    Early last month, (September 2023) I planted 200 seeds from this Summers 2023 marigolds and none of them germinated. So I am assuming from this that the seeds need to go through a winter phase of some sort before they are mature enough to germinate. Good video but I will take issue with one aspect. Sowing 2 seeds per pot is wasteful and the subsequent thinning disturbs the roots of the remaining seedling. If for example you want 20 plants then, using your method, you plant 40 seeds and thin out what you don't need. If I want 20 plants then given that the germination rate is likely to be around 80% I plant 25 seeds in 25 pots and any excess over 20 I will find a spare corner for somewhere. I have used 25 seeds and you have used 40.

  • @TowardGarden

    @TowardGarden

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for sharing. I completely understand your concern. I tried to show in the video that the thinned seedlings can be saved and planted separately. I tend to be on the safe side and start seeds extra rather than missing the season because of a bad germination rate. As you shared, there are many other ways to gardening and I just show what works beast for me. Thank you very much for visiting and for your feedback!
