+Mal ffs My opinion , growing lithops from seed, the plants should do a lot better than getting plants that were grown under different conditions. Around me here in Canada , to my knowledge most of the lithops are imported. So they were grown under different conditions , humidity , temperature ect. and have to acclimate to there new environment. You should have a lot better success growing them from seed and its far more rewarding.

I grew Lithops from seed for many years here in San Jose, Cal. I use a strictly mineral mix. After having to move unexpectedly my entire collection was eaten by squirrels. Head's up to anyone who can grow Lithops outdoors where squirrels are around. I hate squirrels needless to say. I lost 90% of my collection.

Thank you for grate video! I have a question for you. How long does it usually take for Lithops seeds to germinate? I leave in NY and bought 100 seeds from Florida seller, after watching your video I decided to germinate the seeds on 07/19/17 till this day I do not see any signs of sprouting! Is there any suggestions on what may be the reason for them not to sprout? Thank you again

Are you willing to share where in Canada you are? I am just starting my foray into cultivating lithops, but if you are selling some of the ebay mis-labels, I'd love to buy. I'm located in Winnipeg. Beautiful videos and so informative! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

mantidgirl I'm not an expert but I think you'd need something with a larger grit. I used two parts beach sand, one part finely strained cactus soil. I've had real good results. For mature plants I used two parts unstrained cactus soil, one park beach sand, one park perlite. You just gotta experiment! Happy gardening!

Hello, these wonderful plants intrigue me. I was given five plants as a gift from my son last Christmas. 3 survived. I just purchased seeds from Hong Kong, blue witchford, supposedly. I’m watching your videos to figure out how to plant them. You mention putting them in terrarium for s few days till them sprout. Can you show me what your terrarium looks like?

What you don't want is very fine compact sand. It can stay wet for ages. I think the kind he's referring to is chunkier. I bought some desert sand in a bag from Amazon, and that stuff is like mud! It's too heavy, even mixed with pumice, it just sinks to the bottom, because it's so fine. It's practically useless. So definitely look for a chunkier, bigger particle-sized course sand. That will dry out faster.

after several purchases of bad seeds from CHINA I decided to buy from a Florida merchant. I bought a packet of Lapidaria and one Gibbabeum both planted on 9-21. Still no signs of germination! Shouldn't they have germinated by now. I am not a seed novice in fact I am a retired Tx. Master Gardener and have propated many seeds of all kinds before. Any feedback would be helpful. thanks

Conophytum's need cooler temps to germinate. If you did plant lithops, there should be signs by now. I'd mist them, might just need a little more moisture. You did just sprinkle the seeds on top right ?
