Hello Amber♡ I am very happy to hear your hair journey, and suggestions. I have major hair loss after allowing a hair stylist to chemically straighten my hair, and because I was going to a stylist because I wanted help to care for my naturally long virgin hair. She being Latina and I being African American. Back in the mid 90's there wasn't as many salons as it is now, we didn't have KZread, and after eight years of professionally, chemically maintained hair care, one day I said enough. I wasn't getting what I needed and she also knew that she wasn't helping me to grow my hair. I wanted curly curls without the ever so hoy curling irons, we didn't really use flat irons because I don't know if they were even being used at that time but she would use heat from the curling irons to flat iron along with the chemical straightening. All I really wanted was wash and go curls, with some high lights. Since 2005, I have been doing my own hair and I have caused major hair loss. Until now! I have learned so much from KZread and Pinterest. I want to keep it simple but the major damage requires special attention. Today, I had some build up from the Castrol after being in my hair for a few days and I wanted to use a DIY conditioning hair mask, but after I wet my hair in the cold water shower I could feel the sticky product build up. So I used a baking soda, amla powder, filtered water and a little Epsom salt. After towel drying I sprayed Infusium23 original mixed with filted water and sealed with my DIY oils. My protective style is pulled back but not using rubber bands. I do also have to take hair, skin & nails supplements and eat healthy foods. I feel good with these new DIY'S but time will tell if I have a good regimen.

I feel your pain with the salon back in the 90's. The " beautician" I was going to caused some serious scarring on the crown of my scalp and I have been dealing with major hair loss since. I went from glue-ins, clip-is, wigs, front lace sew- ins twists and braids trying to hide the bald spots. I regret my decision to ever start going to a salon and I still regret it because the crown is still bald but slowly growing in. Then last April 2017, I'd finally had enough of it all and decided I was going to do a big chop and start all over and focus on how to care for and grow my natural hair. No more salons. So I had my husband shave my entire head clean and smooth. I'm always on You Tube looking for some new product or process to try that might just help the crown grow in faster and fuller. Currently my hair is 7 inches long with the exception of the crown. I used essential oils for scalp massages and Shea Moisture products, Olive oil and Avocado oil to moisturize and seal. It's working so I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Best wishes to you my sister for successful hair growth. 😉

Based on my personal experience I applied the light type of castor oil on my whole hair for about 2-3 hr 2-3 times a week without heat or hair cap cuz I massage my hair the same time I apply the oil within 3 weeks my hair grew really fast, strong, healthy, no shedding, easily brushed Also I tried the heavy type of castor oil and I didn’t like it cuz basically (low porosity hair) my hair prefers light products which it can absorbs fast and easy

This makes sense, our hair need moisture to grow. I do have a large jar of the JBCO leave- in conditioner . The young lady name Brianna I believe, but she is a nurse said the same thing grew her hair too. Shampoo ( trim edge if possible) - deep condition - rinse -air dry- message edges with some wild growth or JBCO - apply a lil leave in conditioner to edges, done . Repeat every 3 days except shampoo only once a month for product build up, just deep condition hair.

Short edges due to you cutting them is not a problem with edges. You also have strong growing hair. People must remember to look at the characteristics of the person's hair they are taking advice from and align with the advice of the person who suffers from the same issues. Cutting your hair is simply a choive, not a problem. I love your video for those who have the same issue as you do. Keep it up!

People some people have growing hair from them being mixed and other people have slow growing hair. If your hair is damaged fine someone who has blessed hands that can work on your hair. Find out what products work for you and stick with I am working on my edges still. I think these liars online are getting paid. What works for some people may not work for you. Say a lot of prayers and stick to it. If you choose not to let anyone work on your hair see a dermatologist and also get your thyroid checked and get rid of any person causing you stress. No weaves just back to natural all the way. Free yourself. Lots and lots of prayers. Peace and love.

Bored facts! My friend from Sri Lanka and myself being Costa Rican with like 4b hair did an experiment to see who hair grows faster . Within two months we both had 1 inch of new growth. Meaning we both grow 1/2 an inch a month. Genetics my a$$

@@bored6373 I second this, my former coworker's was biracial and her hair was the same length for the duration of the time we worked together for four years and mine gained length and I am a 4c. She really didn't take care of it.

I truly agree with you sister.... if am natural I should totally natural products.... And that's what I do...and I have great results for my hair....thanks for that...but I must say coconut oil works for me....castor don't treat my hair well😊

it works..I started about a year ago...I don't have edges, now. I use to have short nappy edges..now i just have long thick nappy hair where the edges use to be, the same grade as my regular hair, which I like better cause I don't really like laying edges...they are so long...I just used without water, but i did it off and on when I thought about it more at first than I do now..yup...long edges...maybe that will become a thing...

Is using the extra dark Jamaican castor oil okay to do this with? And what styles are best for giving your edges a break?
