I'm in France, and for the 4 years have lost all my garlic, onions and leeks to miner fly. This year, I covered all the beds with light fleece, only removing it a week ago. Fabulous results! There is a slight inconvenience for weeding, but nothing compared to losing the crops to pests. Thanks for the video - only just discovered your channel.

Do u remove the fleece periodically to weed? Or do you leave it in to the end?

Do put the fleece over the soil? And cut holes for the garlic?

Bulbs were a good size, but then you did give them a huge amount of space per plant : all the best - Steve

thank you for you comment! Yes, i give them about 15cm all directions, the soil is very sandy on my plot and that seems to work best.

You plant your garlic so much deeper than me. Have you experimented with different depths? Obviously not being so deep mine tend to poke their heads out and start growing a lot quicker but wondering if I’d get better garlic production if it was deeper. Mine tend to be literally just below the surface.

From what I’ve been seeing (many videos not myself) if you have sandier soul you can dig them in deeper and should get better results. But if you have thick/clay soil you need to plant shallower

Thank you very much for your comment! I didn't add anything to the soil, but on my to-do list is to create some videos on what I do to keep the soil fertile. I hope to produce these soon!

Hi Liam. Thanks for the video, very helpful. My garlic (first time growing) has really thick necks but upon digging down with my finger, doesn’t look to have bulbed. Is this normal? Just too early?

I normally harvest my garlic sown in the autumn in July. It's quite slow growing so what you describe sounds normal. I hope you get a good harvest!

Hello! Best of luck with your garlic growing. About 120cm wide and 240cm long if I remember correctly. You may like to see this page too: www.allotmentbook.co.uk/contents/making-no-dig-beds/

They are ready to harvest when the plant leaves start to wilt and turn yellow. How long depends on the growing conditions. You may like to see this growing guide: www.allotmentbook.co.uk/contents/garlic/

Why not use black plastic sheeting or non biodegradable weed membrane? I would save the waste of throwing it away, and the time consuming job of cutting all those holes in it.
