It’s tricky to balance workflow against creative stagnation. On one hand, we can’t start over from scratch every time we sit down to create. The other end of the spectrum is being free and traveling where you haven’t in the past. In short, don’t be afraid to start creating outside your comfort zone - that’s typically where the exciting stuff exists.
In Songwriting with Alec, I take you through the step by step process of how to write a song so you can see there are no secrets to making music. I write lyrics and play guitar, bass, synths, and drums in my home studio in Austin, TX, where I work as a musician, producer and recording engineer. first!
For me...starting with the piano would almost always lead to slow sad songs, starting with the rythm section, a drum loop a bass line or whatever would always lead to something more upbeat. But starting with some melody and lyrics would almost always lead to unfinished songs.

The beauty of this whole thing is that there’s no right way to do it. Thanks for checking out the channel. In a future episode, I’m going to get out of my comfort zone and start with a drum loop.
