    ADU Aquascaping after all aquarium plants are still a budding business. Earlier in week I saw someone selling some kind of freshwater red algae on eBay wow. I saw the miella you were saying about, they look a lot like sea lettuces. Then there's prob more plants we hadn't used from the local areas. I'm trying a hair grass species that hitchhike on some arrowhead I dug from the wild that unlike the dark green ones is chartreuse. Then there's the little plants that I see on floodplain in certain spots that get dry during summer that not your common weed.

    ADU Aquascaping then there's freshwater sponges. In theory they filter solid fish wastes but they will have to be attractive too. Not just some ugly color blobs.

    I have what I believe is Java moss in my 10 gallon tank. I tried to get rid of it. I thought it was gone but 1 spore turned into enough moss to fill my 10 fry tanks. It grows like a weed and clings to everything in the tank. Wish I could get rid of it but idk if it's possible. Haha. It floats in my fry tanks with no substrate,no ferts and grows like crazy. Great for removing nitrates.

    awesome info I adore moss my grandson has a small red ear slider turtle and I would love to make this a learning project for my grandson he will be in the 2nd grade this year. I keep reptiles and he helps me alot with them His main job is to remind me to wash my hands after handling reptiles ect. LOL We want to start off small and as the turtle grows so will his home. So my question is what would be the best moss to start with ? We want him to eventually have a moss wonderland. Ive heard you can use moss balls you buy at pet stores and they will grow is this true? Im also working on a moss viv for my frogs. This will be great for a show and tell school project.

    mary Harvey Hi, you can definitely use Marimo moss balls, or rip the ball into pieces and then plant them to driftwood or rock using thread or super glue. Loctite super glue gel works. Like I showed in the video. You will probably want to try that and or getting Java moss and possibly even peacock or willow moss too. All hardy mosses to care for.

    +MattTanks One variety can handle freshwater, and has been bred in freshwater over the decades. The problem is feeding. They are very careless feeders, and you need current in your tank so the food can float by their face. They spend time on the bottom, so you need a current that sweeps across the bottom of the tank, this can be accomplished by using a wavemaker. Also, you want small food. Pearl Gold fry food, and or smash up some flake food. They really like frozen copepods and brine shrimp as well.

    Yes, most mosses can easily grow under water. Just make sure to rinse it really good and I'd recommend quarantining it submerged for a bit in a plastic box just to make sure there isn't any unpleasant surprises in it. Also, I don't recommend gluing it with any super glues unless you find one that is made for aquatic stuff. Most superglues and other glues are super toxic, and many think it's okay in just tiny amounts, but I'd stay clear of it. Just use silicone and if it shows through, just dust it with some substrate to cover the visible silicone and the moss will fill it out in no time. Or use some string :)

    I am growing weeping moss at 77.8 farenheit. And its growing like weed. Wonder if it would get more compact at 76.6. Can't go lower in my custom 55 because of my fish. What is the ideal temp you would recommend? I am asking because I am setting up a nano scape atm. Btw. I am dosing co2 to the max and doing a sort of EI method with niloc g miro and macro with 2 current usa satellite plus pro blasting in my big tank. Running an fx6 at full flow with the recommended pond gurus setup too with an eheim skim 350 skimmer. So nothing is missing in that. Maybe the temps. For that, again 76.6 ish is my lowest possibility. For the nano though, I wonder what you would recommend.

    Hey, yeah 76-77 degrees is sufficient. And of course weekly trimming will help a lot with compaction. If the tank is deep, 20 inches or deeper, then you will want the lights close to the water surface to get more PAR if your moss happens to be found in lower regions of the tank. Just a thought to help even more. Higher light, higher CO2, lower temps, and regular trimming will do the trick!

    +AQUADESIGN by aquamaniac Thanks, my next scape will incorporate a trail with an overhanging tree. I am going the linear perspective route with a trail! LOL I am going to get a low-iron rimless tank and scape over the school break. Have you heard of LANDEN tanks? They are supposedly made by the same Chinese manufacturer that makes ADA tanks, and you can get them for a bit cheaper. Aquatop also has some really cheap tanks. There is a pet shop in the US that is selling an Aquatop low-iron rimless tank for only $410.00 with free shipping! It is equivalent to a 90-P in dimensions.

    +ADU Aquascaping Nice one Dave. Trail with overhanging tree is something i have thought about in the past. But the right piece of wood never really showed up for it. I had that into the woods scape that was a scape with two pieces of wood on each side, but they weren't exactly it. I have not heard of Landen, i do know aquatop, they exist here under a different name and i have some equipment from them. Never used tanks from them though. But here the optiwhite tank took over the market, its acessible. Not cheap but is more affordable now than ever. It took me time to buy mine, but the other day i found some ADA's selling for half the price of it. I love my TMC its well built and sits pretty in my living room. But to be honest my dry start aquascape is being more successful and is built on a 15£ second hand tank, with a 1£ made in chine heater, a 9£ aquatop hang on back and a 50£ led unit. Total 75£ all of which i bought long time ago and got plenty of use from. The TMC sits at atleast 1000£ overall costs if not more. Not counting with the equipment i put in that i already had. My point is i do love my tank and really proud i got it, but the tank doesn't make the scape. Its the scape that makes the tank. Your aquascape looks amazing, people wasting time looking at the tank where it sits in should rethink their position in the hobby. That said i do hope you get a good optiwhite because with scapes like yours is gonna look great.

    I was never able to grow any kinds of moss. I had the temperature around 26 degrees Celsius, pH around 7.5 and KH was rather high due to our extremely hard tap water, but since you mentioned that KH is optional, dou you think it did not work out because of the high temperature?

  • @ADUAquascaping

    @ADUAquascaping

    Durri01 well if the KH is super high it can impact growth to some extent. Java moss is easy to grow, but other moss types may still need lower KH. Fissidens and Java do well in high KH, Christmas moss and weeping moss will want more moderate KH levels, such as 5 dKH.

    +Junglecp Most of these moss types can be grown emersed because they are truthfully bog plants. I do believe that Fissidens fontanus however is a true aquatic and needs to be under water, but I could be wrong. For sure you can grow Java moss in a vivarium, or even in a bowl out of water. Some people have java moss growing in bowls and dishes on top of their refrigerator. Thanks for watching and for the idea. I am actually currently farming plants out of water, but need time for them to grow before I make a video about it.
