Russell I've had my neighbours scratching their heads as to why I shake my 8 feet (and growing) tomato plants first thing in the morning before school run, 30 min jog and rushing to work. It's the 2n time I've grown tomato plants...this yr my neighbours gifted me 6 and they wanted to give me more but I didn't want to be greedy. Let me tell you Russell. I've mothered those plants as well as the rest in my veg patch. I 've had to tie 2 sticks together to support those plants heading to the sky and I need to help them on their journey. Wake up every day and the first thing I do is rush downstairs, coffee in hand and into the garden to check up on them and make sure they're safe. Kids & the neighbours think I've lost it and I'm proud to say I think I may have. Hehe :)

my "gotta out do you" neighbor saw me start my plants...she came home with a plant with a tomato on it, stuck it shallow in the ground by an electric pole and said "i got a tomato already!" i was using 4x8 hog panels...vertical...2 on each side of a 4 ft bed with 6 plants and used a ladder for the last half of the season.....500 plus better boy tomatoes, still 100s on the vine when the frost hit. she got about nine that i could see were edible......and never a compliment either, didnt need one, but after 8-9 ft plants just sagging with tomatoes, my point was made! excellent advice!

my uncle grew about 5 plants 2 years ago. They were so tall we couldn't measure it normally. The ladder wouldn't stay still. I grabbed a 12 foot crappie pole and stood it next to it, and it was about 6 inches away from the top of the pole on the tallest plant. About a foot away on the rest. He had so many tomatoes that year that he couldn't give them away. No bottom rot either, which was surprising. The stalks were about 4 inches thick at the base.

I have done the same thing with concrete reinforcement wire. It comes in rolls 6 feet wide and 50 feet long. Cut off 10 feet and roll it around the 5 foot section. In my area (Arizona) the pests and blight and such that everyone in the south worries about is a non issue. I have grown better boys to 10 feet tall, and have even had an 8 foot cherry tomato. The downside is that the stems have to go through a chipper in fall to clean out the bed. My biggest one had a 3.5" trunk (not a stem) and became somewhat woody.

This year I started using BT I see it is working. I tried neem oil soap water. oil for some reason they didn't work. To me best thing to do is to learn everything from the scratch. 1. when you first place your tomatoes plants inside 2x2 hole bottom do you remove leaves ? 2. Do you get diseases ? how do you control do you spray anything? I do not see any leaves damage. 3. How often do you water? thank you Andre
