When searching for a good grease, I came across MOLYKOTE PG-75, which is designed in Germany to work amazing with nylon/metal gears. Not cheap but you can find it in 30ml jars which is enough for 2 bikes

Wrong grease for the job my friend. You have to use a full synthetic grease like super lube because the distillates in the normal petroleum based grease eat away and break down nylon, plastic and rubber. Its not immediate of course but it can cause advance wear and fatigue mainly on the planetary gears causing a problem down the line. Next time use super lube synthetic grease.

Get mobil grease 28 or super lube synthetic grease. Both are safe for use on plastic and nylon and can be found online.

Why don't you use gear oil (e.g. viscosity 140) instead of the grease? The grease will be off the teeth in a short time - and only on the sides of the gears (but it doesn't do any good there) ...

The Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease I would not use, it tends to liquify in warm weather and run out of wherever you put it. I think I would use a waterproof marine grease instead.

@@pauly51 So far its still quiet.. I'm not sure on my mileage. As a car mechanic, I see no reason mobil 28 won't last. It sounds like the person who said this had a bad bearing, and the grease covered the noise up for a little while. That being said there is no official grease, like there would be in a car gear box. I have not put 1000's of miles on the new gears yet, se we will see.

@@northyland1157 sounds good, thanks. I’m curious if I should use Mobil 28, Lucas red and tacky or molykote 44 on my e-bike planetary gears in hub. There was one comment in a forum that Mobil 28 wouldn’t last 60miles.

  • @marxman00

nylon on metal does not realy need grease , It looks nice though .. Anyway the grease is gone from any actual bearing surfaces within a few meters of use ... thats why vehicles use oil baths continuously flushing the wear surfaces. Grease points are for non fully rotating surfaces like stearing bushes.. they need a top up regular.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. I added another 2000 miles on it and it sounds a lot like prior to greasing it. Next time I grease the gears I'll try to get a better idea of when they return to their degreased state; it honesty may have been about 200 miles or so. A previous comment mentioned adding a grease zerk, however, that would likely cause wheel imbalance unless someone came up with a clever way of balancing such a part.

You did not say in the video how to remove the screws from the motor if anyone reads this, you're gonna need an impact driver, unless your motor uses allen(i'm not sure if they're all the same but mine were very tight and had phillips screws that are easy to strip)

I think each bike will be different. Once I moved the casing section that comes out to the bottom, as shown on the video, it came out easily. I could see some bikes requiring a sledge hammer though given all the potential build up and rust that could bind a casing shut. I'd say just be careful and build up to greater levels of force if required.

so why dont we drill a small hole about 3 inches out from the center, on the brakes disk side into the side of the hub. be carefull and use high speed and break thru real easy then put white lube in with syringe and stick a piece of whatever in the hole afterwards. thats what i am going to do a film it for youtube so you millennial can pass it on. this fall on youtube kids.
