How To Grade & Clean Your Sports Cards Before Submitting to PSA, BGS, or SGC

Grading and Cleaning Sports Cards:
Initial Assessment:
Upon receiving raw and ungraded cards, inspect for visible damages, whitening, soft corners, and edge chipping. Compare the condition with PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) and other grading service guidelines.
Cleaning Process:
Clean the cards gently using your breath and a paper towel. Huff on the card, similar to steaming up a window, then gently rub with a paper towel using a "wax on, wax off" motion. Ensure the card's corners are not damaged during this process.
Protective Coating:
Some cards may have a protective coating that may be carefully removed if it has scuffs or scratches. Peel it off gently, starting from a corner, ensuring the card itself isn’t damaged.
Inspecting for PSA Grading:
Identify which cards are good candidates for PSA grading, looking at aspects like corners, edges, surface, and centering. Compare cards with existing graded cards to establish a benchmark.
Considerations for Specific Card Types:
Different cards, such as chromium or foil cards, require specific attention and careful handling due to their susceptibility to surface damage and edge wear. Ensure you know the specifics of grading particular card types.

💎 Sports Card Products: www.cardcapsule.us/gradedcardinvestor Hey guys a few notes regarding this video. #1. If you want to use a microfiber cloth or glass cleaning cloth instead of a paper towel, then use that. #2. Be sure to ALWAYS test clean a card of lesser value before cleaning the card you intend on submitting for grading. #3. Not all cards need to be cleaned, only the ones that have noticeable finger prints and boogers on them. #4. Be gentle and take your time. Like I said in the video, you don't want to damage the card even further!

For the amount psa charges for a submission, they should be able to email a video of the submission being graded. It would provide ultimate transparency and would be a way to bring the reputation back to par. They should also hire more help to provide a quicker turnaround time. With the technology we have available today, it can be easily obtainable. It would be nice to hear an explanation why a card was graded.

Fun fact that will turn you off of PSA... the people who are grading your beloved cards that determine whether you get a 10 or a 9 or let me rephrase that... determine whether you earn $2,000 or $200, makes minimum wage!! Literally the same quality of employee that forgets cheese on your cheeseburger are the supposed “experts” in Grading and Authenticating 🙄. I’m all for hiring more people at these places, but this should be a high paying job. There’s a reason why you tip the Valet guy $20 to take good care of your car lol

However the film comes off rubbing it but can scratch the cards.

Want your thoughts. I have a 2019 Lebron Prizm base card I want to get graded. Everything looks great on the card except the left border has two tiny dots. Like small indentations. Do you think that would make it a 9? Worth submitting or keeping it raw? What about your experience with print lines on the backs? Is PSA lenient with those? I have a Select Luka Rookie like yours in the video and it has tiny print lines that can be seen when holding against a light source. If there were no print lines I think it would be a 10. Thank you! Love your videos.

Tyler herro prizm and bam adebayo optic are impossible to find a centered card for. The hero’s are left thick right thin, and the Bam’s vice versa. Been trying to buy them both and they all are off centered.

Thank you so much for your informative video. Just subscribed. Can i ask your expert advice? How strict do you think psa is with declared value on cards? I have some cards that i want to submit but prices just surged recently in the past 2 months. So their average price still only show slightly over $500 but recent sales are higher. I'm not sure if the values would hold and hate to overpay for grading. Thanks in advance!

How do you feel about wearing gloves while handling cards? You handle the cards very well but i feel even if you are holding the sides fingers wrap around and touch the surface. Even a little.

I’ve seen a few of these types of videos but yours really breathes confidence. More recent videos suggest not to submit cards if they won’t be a 9 or 10. Do you think there’s still value in submitting a card that will grade as a 7 or 8?

From my opinion absolutely! A lot of it also depends on whether your a collector/investor only. There are some cards I won’t ever sell and could care less about grade but it’s nice to keep them protected with a PSA case!!!

Hey great video love your content.Your methods are very informative educationally good to know.I have question for you and others. I would like to know from your expertise if you wanted to start collecting and investing in basketball cards and you had to only pick one out the two brands 1. 2020-21 Panini Chronicles or 2. 2020-21 Panini Mosaic what would be the best brand to invest and that would give you the highest quality and value of the cards long term out of those two? What do you think s the best choice? I just barely started collecting since december you can say im a newbie please let me know thanks.

Great video! I would love to start buying factory sets and raw cards for grading. I’ve never gotten the concept of the whole grading situation. Is there a way to get a deal by sending in a bulk lot? Is PSA the way to go? I’m looking for something affordable that I can cherish all my cards from my childhood and future purchases. Thank you in advance.

This was very informative. I have been going through some of my cards and I want to clean a few of them before submitting. Your videos are awesome. I have a question. Max Kellerman I doubt most of the commons would sell for $1-2 on eBay. I did end up selling the majority of the cards for $3K. I kept most of the high end cards and will likely sell them on eBay

Love the videos! Say you submit a card from the 70s via economy in a bulk submission assuming that it'll grade highest a 9 valued under $500 but it actually grades at a 10 and theoretically worth thousands. Do you have to pay more to get the card back or will they just send it back with the rest?

  • @GRADEDCARDINVESTOR

    @GRADEDCARDINVESTOR

They'll just send it back with the rest I'm pretty sure. They may contact you to pay more for it though to ensure it's covered during shipping.
