Thanks for that. I’m building a TT120 model railway and have done a test, sticking 10 mm thick extruded polystyrene board on top of 12 mm. Thick. MDF board just using good old PVA glue and leaving it for a day or two. It looks as though it’s stuck pretty well but now I want to stick another 10 mm layer of XPS foam on top of the other and experimenting at the moment with PVA again, but if all else fails it is good to know that your recommendation of Stixall should work just fine. Many thanks for that mate cheers

I wish I could have assisted before you went to all that trouble. Expanding or expanded polystyrene (styrofoam) has a much different construction characteristic than the standard polystyrene sheet used in model making. Those other products work well with the sheet versus the expanded foam. But kudos to you for your determination. Another reason why I like your channel.

Hi, thanks for this video, I've been looking for ages on how to stick it. HOWEVER, Living in France, I had to buy 2 tubes from Amazon to assist in my Model railway scenery. When they were delivered, I noticed that there was no sell-by dates on the tubes. I opened both of them and they had gone into a state that they could not be squeezed out of the tube. I actually broke a mastic gun trying. Amazon gladly took them back and replaced them, and when the next two tubes arrived, I found them to be the same, I sent them back for a refund this time, so sadly I have had to give up on STIXIT as I guess Amazon have a bunch of old stock. Great video and thanks for the info.

regular wood glue bonds polystyrene foam. no clamps or weights. I did a test with a 4 inch block of wood and set it down onto 1lb polystyrene foam (one pound refers to the density, this is very light foam) and left it alone for a day. there was no added pressure other than the weight of the wood itself. the bond is so strong that the foam will break before the glue does. it works with foam-to-foam but will slip and slide around until the glue tacks up. advise letting a skin of glue nearly dry on both surfaces and then bond them. if you use anything containing petroleum distillates, it will melt foam. 3M 77 spray melts it, as well. avoid any adhesive containing toluene or acetone. HOWEVER one of the best adhesives for polystyrene is called Sta'Put (quite expensive) contains acetone just enough to cause excellent adhesion. I can't believe you're claiming wood glue doesn't work and that you went through a bunch of tests that a simple google search would have informed you to not bother.

Gorilla glue is the gold standard for gluing polystyrene together, its basically made out of the same stuff. Also hot glue works very well for gluing polystyrene, you need to use a low wattage gun however so it doesn't heat the glue too hot and melt the polystyrene.

Gorilla Glue is polyurethane not polystyrene. I have used polyurethane foam to fix EPS polystyrene in place in construction but I don't know how strong it's shear strength would be.

Use expanding poly urethane glue(comes in a gun tube), you need to moisten the surface and apply to both surfaces and tape it or clamp, nail etc to hold it down till its set up- about 1 hour.

The only thing kepping polystyrene from projects like this is its limitations. Being able to glue pieces of it together open up a whole new avenue of more cost effective possibilities. Now all that's left is to finish the cement fire pit. I'll be waiting.
